northernlights
I've just redesigned my setup up and I found out my bro's camera is here so I thought I'd post a pic. As you can see the 3 important things I have considered in this design is style, accoutics and comfort....what you think?

djdiggla
I bet it sux to work there, but for sure has it's perks! Stand is custom built. But those multi level keyboard stands are pretty cool and flexible too. I got a spacetek stand for christmas---super cool but retardedly expensive-- +$300 for a fucking stand! Thanks moms! I think she mighta got it for free--they sent two by accident and she returned one so they mighta credited her card for that returned one! bwahahaha! Used to use these as monitors but too loud and not accurate enough. Mackie M-1400i Power amp. I use this for pushing my PA, but in the studio I just hook it up to that little sub to the right for some extra bump. Someone gave me these old Pevey mid (MB-2) and sub (FH-1) cabinets... Got nothing to push em with tho so they just hold my TV. Sadly, the sub even has a custom speaker my girl had put in for me (when I used the PAs as monitors), but I need to secure it better. 2 of these are what I use as monitors now... KRK ST6. Also got a single Rokit 5 for real cheap, but it sux IMO. Note the spools and spools of bootlegs and mixCDs on the bottom left. Some of my 45s on the bottom and VHS DJ/hiphop tapes on the top two shelves. My great grandpa's 78/8-track player--still works and has rca outs! Stacked on top is some WW2 shit I don't know what to do with and a box or two of 45s I need to sort. Got a Nak in the other room for ya tape-heads. djdiggla
^^U know u got an open invite... couch even folds out into a bed for them late-night sessions! Holy shit diggla...crazy. Fucking crazy setup...jeeez! By the way: What's your view on the 909? Worth buying? Excellent fader...fun to use? Thanks guys... I was really scared to buy it cause I was afraid I wouldn't like it and that's a shitload of $$ to drop on something... But, I REALLY dig it. The sound is awsome (prob in part due to the 3-prong "mic" outs--forget what the're called).. It is odd that the EQs don't have full kills (as pointed out on most of the reviews I read). I mostly worried about (1) the effects and (2) if the pro-x fader would fit. Basically it's awsome. The efx are super sweet and easy to use (mostly thanks to the tap buttons). I wish there were more efx, but I'm more than satisified. The only funny thing is I always accidently bump the "pitch echo" when I trigger the efx--kinda obnoxious when I am trying to just turn on the echo...so a tad cramped between the on/off switches and the touch screen. I worried that the efx would sound all shitty or be off time (like the kaoss pad is), but it all sounds great IMO. ...I thought about just buying the Pioneer EXF unit, but I really wanted to be able to isolate the efx to a specific channel and the efx wouldn't allow that to happen--so basically, for the price/use compared to the efx unit it's pretty right on. The fader is really impressive IMO. I worried that the pro-x wouldn't fit, but I like the stock fader so much better I could give a fuck if the pro-x fits or not cause I'll probably never put it in! Feels nice and really sharp. I hope it lasts a long time--both the mixer overall and the fader. But as far as out of the box, I'm very happy. One bizzare thing u might want to take into account if buying from overseas is that the power cable is built in. Advantage--if I forget something at home, that's usually what it is, but kinda unusual to have it perm attached.
Bubba
Thx for the reply. As you may have seen in another thread (regarding vestax's new 08) I'm frantically trying to make up my mind what mixer to buy. The 909 had me sold until someone started dissing it and speaking about fader flaws and stuff like that. To cut a long story short, I've basically gone through every mixer in my mind and was very close to buying the vestax 08 or scratch box...but luckily until now haven't. I'm really drawn to the built in EFX on the 909 and from some people I know who own one, they're all really happy with the fader aswell. A little detail: What's the fader knob like? Is completely square or like on the older generations, does it have a curve to it? Dunno it's just that that old fader knob always got on my nerves. I guess I'ma have to try out the 909 before I buy it anywhere. I know a guy fairly close by who owns one, so I'ma prolly have to go passed his place, before I eventually put my cash on the table. Jeez, just went through your setup again...crrrrazy. Very nice stuff. Do you also have a recording booth in there somewhere or do you do that at a separate location? pee.z Oliver
Dub-Se7en
the 909 is a dope mixer, but if you're into cutting in a major way the fader is flawed. it feels just fine, but it's too 'digitally' and pops on cutout too, also, i wore out the upfaders in 8 months flat and i'm not a big upfader cutter i still love it though, and don't regret buying it. djdiggla
^^^Ur invited too, luv muffin! Never heard that about the faders, Dub... hope mine last longer than that! Good thing I'm keeping my 07. The fader seems pretty square, to answer your question, Bub... looks like a regular Vestax fader might fit it tho. Buying a mixer is a hard decision to make.... I've had my share of overpriced pieces of shit. Probably can't go wrong with that 08... and the way it's setup it would kill with a EFX-1000! As I'm sure u've heard me say, I'm not a Rane fan. I've always wanted to try a HAK.. The crazy man who fixes my speakers and amp SWEARS by the Urei rotary mixer and they just came out with the 1601 series (going for 1/2 the listed price in most stores). I really want to try that Audio Innovate mixer...but I can basically imagine the ups and downs of the effects from using my moog--figure it would be sick to use more on a production end than DJing...
