After quite a few years away from making music and scratching, I seem to have developed a rather expensive modular synth habit. To validate the impact it has on my bank account I'm recording little tracks (jams). The only goal is to have fun...this latest effort seems appropriate here 😄

Thanks for you suggestions. I ended up dismantling it again and having another go at cleaning it. It seems to be working now, I just hope it lasts. @JHouse both channels worked, it just jump to full left when the fader was full right.

NEWS FLASH: Tom posts an actual DJ question! Last week I've set up a Z2 which has been boxed for over a year, and now the crossfader is being a dick. It's mostly working except, for when I slide it right over to the righthand side, at which point is cuts back to full left (see video). Things I've tried: - Recalibrating in Z2 settings on Traktor - Recalibrating on the fader (with the little button on the bottom of the PCB) - Opening it up and giving it a clean (as described here https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/z2-crossfader-problem-fix-so-happy-like-new-wih-photos-and-step-by-step.270961/) Does anyone have any experience of this issue and have any idea on how I can fix it?

I know that first pattern (tapping through one beat on one deck and back spinning a single sound on the other) as a "broken chase". I don't really know where I got that name from but I have a feeling that it may have been mentioned on the Shure Turntablism 101 video (possibly the Rob Swift section). It's been a long time since I've seen that video though so I might be completely wrong..

When you connect to the computer and calibrate the controls in Traktor it updated the behaviour of some things (I had fader problems before calibrating). That said, I'd be surprised if the reverse switch was affected - worth a try before sending it back through.

Tricky situation and I've been there! I don't think there's a right answer but here's some thoughts: First consider these questions: 1. Why do you make music with them - Because you enjoy it? Because you obliged? Because you're friends? Because you need someone there to keep you engaged? Because you group has history/success or is known? 2. What are you trying to achieve - You just enjoy making music? Some sort of success? If the answer to both these questions is simply because you enjoy it, then you can just keep enjoying it. Do it when you feel it's fun and take time off when you're not feeling it. If it's just because you enjoy it then there is no problem, even if one of the guys is doing fuck all. If you feel pressured to do it because they're friends who keep saying "yo, let's make some music tomorrow" and you don't want to let them down, then I recommend you just start saying no more often. Do it when you feel up for it but do what you want to do at other times. Might make you feel uncomfortable to say it but you'll be happier. If you are trying to get some sort of success or recognition then the emotional stakes are raised! Basically, at this point if things aren't going well then success isn't going to make it better (probably the opposite). Add into that ownership and money and you're going to feel hard done by - the best you can hope for is that when the group has a meltdown you can continue on the success trajectory on your own. In this case I don't know whether carrying on or splitting is the best thing to do but I suggest you have a good think about it. Ultimately, I ended up in that last category and decided to split. I don't I had any chance of being happy with the situation and this was probably the right option. However, without the motivation of the other guys (and some other factors) I've pretty much completely stopped producing. Moral of the story - if you genuinely just enjoy making music then it's never a problem and you can just do it as you feel. But if you want to turn it into a career it's can be hard work, lonely if you're doing it alone and frustrating if you're not working with the right people. The people who just enjoy making it are happen to hit success while doing so are very lucky IMHO. Good luck and enjoy it!

I need to tell my girlfriend what I want for Christmas. At the moment I'm at risk of her buying me a yoghurt maker - why she thinks I want one is beyond me. So anyway, I've seen videos of all you cool cats cutting on 7in portable turntables and I want in. Judging by previous threads in this section, it looks like I should be getting a Numark PT01? But what about the other bits? Can you guys point me in the direction of the following recommend parts: * Turntable (PT01?)? * Fader? * Decent 7" scratch records? * Do I need a speaker? MiniRig maybe? * How do you mix the turntable with the beat? Thanks guys!!!

Try a few layers of detuned square waves, add some reverb and distortion to taste, then play some chords. Finally, use side chain compress against the kick to get the pumping. I hope that's helpful and makes sense.

I've finally destroyed every stylus in my house and want to order some more. I've orders some replacements for my Shures but the the Qbert concord ones seem rare and expensive. Have they been discontinued? Is the another stylus which fits and is decent for cutting (mostly on a DVS)? Should I just deck out another set of headshells with Shures instead? Cheers!

One cool tip I like (I think chile said this somewhere) is make your solo scratching like a Q&A with your self. Basically scratch the current bar (or whatever measure you like) like it's an answer to the previous one. It makes it more interesting imho.

Nice, 3 & 4 I was aware of but 1 & 2 are nice new things to know! Thanks for that. I have a Maschine MK1 and there are 2 supplied templates - one for controlling normal decks and one for controlling remix decks. I've played with the remix ones and they're ok, considering getting an F1 though. To get the remix decks working with Maschine you load the remix deck template onto Maschine via the Controller Editor and then you can add it as a new controller in Traktor using the Maschine Remix Controller option under NI controllers. Not sure if these exist for the Micro though. By the looks of it both the F1 and the X1 might be able to do this. Obviously not much help if you want to know how to map it to another controller, but considering the price they're worth considering I reckon.

Jesus, no wonder people pirate stuff. I know people who bought a legit copy of Cubase SX3 and ended up going back to the cracked version because it was much quicker/more stable... I've got it sorted now, phoned the Berlin office and they sorted it in about 1 minute.

Coming from my 56 the innofader certainly feels lighter (not clean my rane for some time mind) and took a little bit of getting used to, liking it now though. On another note, I've just not get my fucking Traktor registered, just phoned NI's use tech support office and they reckon my ticket will get replied to in about 8 fucking days...in this day and age that is fucking ridiculous!!!
