Steve
Check the Suprnova forums. If you downloaded it from Suprnova, there are posts saying that the Reloaded version contains at least one trojan. Bloodhound.W32.EP. also..... W95.CIH.1049. and this new macro virus......... W97MZRAD. Some are saying these are heuristical false alarms but I would be wary. Norton and KAV pick up the "viruses". Personally I wouldn't install it but then I don't take risks with my machine.

Chee
Have you guys tweaked the .cfg file yet? There's a whole ton of em out there, and people seem to swear that the can boost performance significantly. I tried a few of em, but as I've only got a shitty Radeon 9200SE, I couldn't do much. Although with the tweaks I can now turn on bump mapping, and play it at 800x680 at a decent frame rate.

Steve
Just another warning but there is a torrent doing the rounds called "DOOM III SPEED UP APP" which makes out that it will boost certain elements of the game. It doesn't. It reports you to pgware.com for software piracy and installs a couple of nasty programs on your machine. If you see it, don't be tempted to try it. Another is a keygen that supposedly unlocks the game for 4 player online play. This is a backdoor trojan and should be avoided too.

I wouldnt mind owning that! --how much did you pay for it? BTW like it has been said before...Dont expect to apply some patch to make the game run better, you will have to tweak the cfg. It makes a big diffrence to the running of the game--Just like loads of game before this editing the cfg is the way to go!

Guest Deeswift
3200+ doesn't have 2 MB L2 cache Timestretch. There's 1 MB versions (Clawhammer core Athlon 64) and 512 KB versions (Newcastle core Athlon 64), but no 2MB L2 cache AMD CPU's. Cache is not as important on an AMD 64 as people might think, this is why AMD reduced the cache of the Newcastle core CPU's to 512 KB, upped the clock frequency by 200 Mhz, and produced a CPU which performs pretty much identically to the 1MB L2 cache Clawhammer cores, yet saved themselves a whole load of money -- less cache per CPU = less transisitors = more CPU's per wafer = lots of profit for AMD. The reason people think cache is important is because Intel had to tag on a shitload of it to Pentium 4. Take away the cache and HT from a Pentium 4 (AMD have a patent on HT, ironic isn't it) and what do you have? A very weak CPU... a Celeron? Yeah, probably. AMD CPU's work very differently to P4's, and for P4, clock frequency and cache is a big deal, and this is why they're in trouble now with not being able to keep up with AMD, they have pushed their chip way too far, pumped up the clock speed and tagged on huge 3 MB cache's, yet they still can't beat an AMD running at 2 Ghz? Regarding memory -- you don't need 2 GB RAM. No one really needs it, and often you can end up slowing your machine down because Windows can have so much RAM it doesn't know what to do with it. 1 GB RAM is plenty for almost any application or game you can think of. Just because a motherboard has 4 DIMM slots doesn't mean they should all be filled, just that they can. 2 X 512 MB sticks of fast (read: tight timings!) PC3200 or PC4000 (DDR500) if you wanna OC would be plenty for pretty much any PC. Anyway, I'm rambling... Sounds like a very dope laptop anyway! Nice spec. That'll be an AMD Athlon 64 Mobile, which are great chips, very low wattage and run very cool (there's no heatspreader on the CPU top like there is on the desktop A64's). Guest Timestretch
lol Dee knows more about my new laptop than me. had it custom built by a company here in Brizzy. im sure its got 2 mb l2 cache ill look into that. doom 3 in bed with the lights out. :52_52:
Guest Deeswift
ARRGGHH!! Scary as fuck! Your laptop sounds well nice, but seriously mate there's no way it could have 2MB L2. Run this: CENTRAL BRAIN IDENTIFIER and it will tell you exactly what the spec is. Here's mine, for example:
