Max
At first I thought I had spoken too soon about the Maya 44 USB, and had overlooked the need for and cost of pre-amps on the phono signal. Then I remembered that the new version of DJDecks has an improved "Software RIAA pre-amp for unamplified turntable inputs." http://www.djdecks.be/index.php?module=download
Max
For anyone who is looking for a more visual guide of the configuration, the MS Pinky site has a good one here: http://www.mspinky.com/WreckedSystem_PhysSetup.html
Deft
For Serato records at least, you will probably need pre-amps.djDecks is fucking DOPE, but nothing will ever touch Serato. If you have the cash, go Serato. It really stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Max
Yeah i agree with you about serato being great. According to Adion (the guy who built DJDecks, the newer versions have improved SSL record support. Couple that with the software preamp and it should work fine. Deft
Have you actually tried it without pre-amps?
homecounties
Personally I wouldn't rely on software amplifying a phono output via a line in connection.
Max
Have you actually tried it without pre-amps?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not with SSL records. If you don't have preamps then I would definitely stick to the FS ones, but if you wana give it a try to SSL records and post the results, that would be cool. Deft
Sorry, my last post sounded a bit confrontational!Yeah, was wondering if things have changed since I reviewed it, because I haven't got any Serato records anymore. What really sucks is that my £250 Emu soundcard has such lame drivers that I can't get total latency below about 30ms unless I use only 1 turntable and ASIO4ALL drivers.I've actually still got my whole Mixvibes package still sitting here - probably never going to get used again! Max
Deft, these drivers seem to work well. http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/ Give them a try and see if you can drop your latency a bit. You might also try increasing the memory buffer on your USB ports to smooth things out a bit if they aren't maxed out already.
chile
next level modding eh, dang!
Max
Yup. I use those drivers to hijack the SoundBlaster Live USB. It doesn't come with ASIO drivers, but you can override them with the kxproject drivers.
Liam
You might need phono pre-amps<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I was puzzling about this one too Is anyone out there running this setup WITHOUT any preamps, say with 1200's?
Dub-Se7en
i've only ever tested this software using my stanton ScratchAmp2, which is an asio 6in6out sound card with both phono and line level inputs. at the moment i havn't got DJD setup but when i get half a chance i'll reinstall it and flick the input select on my soundcard to line and test it
Liam
Dub, what carts you using? Do you have any shitty ones with crap output levels, 500's say? If it works OK with those, then Shures or Orts will be a snap.
Dub-Se7en
liam, i've only got 44-7's man. i used to use FS1 fine on 500's though.
Deft
For use with DjDecks, you *might* get away with no pre-amps when using Finalscratch records - as the code is louder and more obvious apparently.DjDecks ran o.k. with my Serato vinyl (using m44-7 into a -10dBV soundcard input) but it was just a bit wonky with pitch stability - not good for mixing. You could probably scratch o.k. with it.Mixvibes runs fine with virtually no signal strength whatsover.
Liam
it was just a bit wonky with pitch stability - not good for mixing.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmmm, I'd want digital turntables for mixing, rather than scratching. Shit, looks like pre-amps it is then. Something could be modded into the card, given space?
Deft
You could have my review copy of Mixvibes DVS, but I think they'll eventually want me to review Pro so I might need the vinyl. Mixvibes doesn't need pre-amps.
MrDee
right .. got the waxgot the splittersgot pdx 2000s + 05mk3got traktor full & djdecks trial versgonna get a soundcard today(the soundblaster one from the first post)do i need phono pre amp?i think i do dont imaplins £20 odd or could i send the signal throughrc20 or somethin? bfresh
For the sound card, you'll need one that's relatively beefy but not necessarily expensive. It needs to have ASIO support. I would reccommend the Maya 44 USB, which can be bought for about $100. Where from pls Max i can't find these for that price anywhere mate? :s Cheapest was some german place for £66 but they only accept visa/mastercard and i ain't got. TyraFromSaigon
this sounds too good to be true. I have Serato for Mac installed in my computer already, all I have to do is buy Serato records and voila? WHAT THE! That sounds crazy.I have an external audio interface (Tascam 122US) thats all I need?So what acts as the transmitter box then if FS and Serato is using that box to convert the sounds from your laptop to the vinyl??? Thats what I dont get. Ok Thanks again for sharing the wealth.
TyraFromSaigon
When I open my Serato program it says..... Interface Disconnected. Will this change once I set it up properly or will I not be able to get away with it?
TyraFromSaigon
Btw, You can download Serato right here : http://scratchlive.net
