Steve
you rocking windows 7 Steve? That's XP mate. I've got Windows 7 installed on my laptop, but I've hardly used it (only cos I never really need to turn my laptop on).
Wax On
how've you got the sexy strip at the bottom? Does it use much resource running whatever it runs to look like that?
Steve
how've you got the sexy strip at the bottom? Does it use much resource running whatever it runs to look like that? It's a program called ObjectDock Plus which costs 20 dollars. There's also a free version, just called ObjectDock. It uses about 20MB of RAM, so it's unlikely to have any impact on how well your machine runs unless you're really pushed for memory. It does have a performance slider which affects RAM usage. I've got it pushed to the max, so it's using the most RAM. There's some hidden stuff you can't see in that pic. The Start menu pops up when you mouse over the bottom left corner of the screen: - http://www.djfbattles.com/sigma/desktop1.png The same with the system tray, bottom right: - http://www.djfbattles.com/sigma/desktop2.png The weather docklet pops out when you mouse over it, giving a 5 day forecast: - http://www.djfbattles.com/sigma/desktop3.png You can also create your own mini-menus in a docklet: - http://www.djfbattles.com/sigma/desktop4.png The main bar auto-hides when a full screen window is open, but it pops to the front when the mouse is moved to the bottom of the screen. It's transparent (which isn't that noticeable in the pic below, but you can adjust the transparency), so you can still see the open window behind it, for example: - http://www.djfbattles.com/sigma/desktop5.png It's got a ton of functionality (more than I've shown here) and it's extremely customisable. dextrous
Sorry my bad, Why you customising xp to work like OS X then?
Steve
Why you customising xp to work like OS X then?Adding those docks you mean? Cos they look good and they're functional. They also have features that go beyond what the standard dock in OS X and the Windows taskbar (and Quick Launch bar) can do. It's kinda like the DockFun add-on for OS X. Apple didn't invent docks, widgets or the cover flow interface, but I guess it's OK for them to be "inspired" by the creations of others when it comes to GUIs. Giraffe Dung
one thing they really need to address in 7 is the spacing of icons in the superbar. it looks really slapdash compared to the osx dock. on mine, at least...

Steve
Wow... fancy and clean and with Win7...Aye, I've switched to using Windows 7 as my main OS now. It's just a shame the license will expire next year and I might have to actually pay for it!
