  1. I'd go with Maschine myself, or if I wanted to do everything in the box I'd bite the bullet and cough up for an mv8800. They should have gotten a professional designer in as well, it looks like a kids toy. I like the battery powered aspect though, hopefully Roland or Akai will come out with something completely cable free soon.
  2. Also, you've been able to record into Ableton Live since at least v4. I think you've always been able to since v1.
  3. What's the model? There's a chance there's a switchable line/mic setting in the settings. Mic inputs are crap compared to line, because they're not designed to be capable of the full frequency range, and they're also preamped- which distorts line level stuff. If you're not concerned about quality and just want something that works, you'll find a 'usb2 audio interface' on ebay for a fiver. One of those from Hong Kong style deals. It won't be much cop but it'll work...
  4. Does your soundcard control panel let you choose what you're recording? If so make sure it's just on the input, not 'what u hear' or similar.
  5. Use line in not mic in. Make sure your gain level is set correctly on the mixer and the soundcard input. It should be absolutely fine.
  6. The Diablos are alright, nothing special tracking or sound quality wise but I'd say better than the 505 and the standard Ortofon Concord and if you've no headshells they're probably the best value you can get...
  7. ladies and gentlemen please join us again in six months when foly discovers that the royal family are lizards and the new world order is upon us...
  8. How did you not get disqualified for using such an obvious sample?! Liked the track though mate
  9. It's just for the calendar events
  10. I have an NGU crew vinyl somewhere from 2004 and it's AWFUL. I can't remember why I bought it. Actually I think I can, I think I thought that the track with Apocraphe sounded okay in the shop... *shudders*
  11. dirk more or less sums it up perfectly... a 2000xl is a bit frustrating to use because it's so slowwwwww, but aesthetically and ergonomically it wees all over the 1000. The 1000 however is much better value in terms of what it can actually do, especially with the jjos. £350's not a bad price for a 2000xl, it should have 32mb ram though- and ideally compact flash too. An extra ton should get you a black 1000 though. A year ago I'd have said spend a bit more on a 2500 but you'll be lucky to find one that cheap now. If the money's a concern, I would say it would be better spent going towards a 1000. If you've just got £350 burning a hole in your pocket, go for it. It's fun. That said, try for £300 if you can...
  12. 99% of loopers are awful. I just use Wrekkstylz Variety Pack Looper 1&2 & Cold Cut Combo 5, which are just collections of well known (read: decent) beats, and usually I have a favourite looper on the go that'll have a loop or two that catches my attention for a few days. The Dirty Deeds 2 looper has just come out and it's an effing work of art. Definitely download it. Lots (and lots and lots) of very good original beats, the quality control's actually quite high, and the artwork is just . The samples are overkill though, especially as they can't be triggered by keys. Takes ages to load on my computer.
  13. "I'm a lyricist, slash producer, and I've got guns so don't think I won't shoot ya-" *turns off* beat sounds nice and laid back though
  14. Texturally Lemon Meringue Pie is stronger than your previous tracks, but the drum pattern needs to take a chill pill, having it that steppy for the whole track was a bit much. There were times when I felt sure it was going to sit back and relax a bit at the end of those buildups but it never did. Still good though. ps afaniam
  15. Did 'You Cunt' have anything to do with the motivation behind this thread?! I completely agree btw, I am angry about more or less everything lately and Jon catches a hell of a lot of my moans- one of which was this exact thing last week. I am a massive hater.
  16. I know what you mean. I have a trial of CS4 and it's just compared to Flash 5 or MX. It looks like ActionScript is much much much more powerful but if you just want to do simple things that used to be all Flash could do, you're a bit buggered without a fairly steep learning curve. If you use Windows, hunt out Swish Max, it's dead easy.
  17. I like my decks high too, I might start taking a fishing stool around with me so that I can cut on 'normal' setups better because if my hands go much lower than my belly button I can't get a feel for the table. I'm not sure whether I need any more reasons for people to call me a spaz though.
  18. i listened to it all the way through and daresay i was actually disappointed when it ended. liked it!
  19. i just did a laugh that sounded a bit like a when you squeeze a jack russell when i read that.
  20. I also find a bit of Savlon helps soothe.
  21. I have some friends who dropped an air rifle on the disk tray when it was open and knackered it so they boxed it up sans hdd and pads and got it swapped for a new one, which died on them legitimately so they did the same thing again, and managed to blag an elite because they got their xbox back when it was quite expensive. All in all they ended up with a 20gb hdd, a 60gb hdd (which they gave to their brother who just bought an arcade), and two extra pads. They daren't go back to the shop anymore though. I'd definitely get the console from the shop, they generally aren't that much steeper than ebay and they come with warranty. I got mine from Game and it was fully refurbed, looks new. Keep meaning to check the manufacture date, it can't be that old because it's an HDMI version. Microsoft warranty all consoles for 3 years now, which is why I didn't go for Game's extended warranty which was an extra year for £20. The bloke said 'we do recommend it because the xboxes are unreliable', cheeky bugger. An immoral man might get a rrod console off ebay before the warranty's up and take it to the shop for a replacement.
  22. ableton live, maybe? you could even (i think) use the boss as a midi controller for it.
  23. it won't work with passworded rar files for me, and you can't look inside an archive you have to extract it first...
