I don't like the look of that gear, but the built in dicers and putting Serato inside the mixer is real nice. There's people on here that have done that: -

And djGoonie is a bit of a mad scientist when it comes to fitting a DVS inside a mixer. If you're looking to have it done, maybe those guys could hook you up for a decent price.

yeah...the baseball theme is lame as fuck. I hadn't seen that someone else had integrated the Dicer, cleanly, into 1200s before. Dude on that thread looks like he does quality work.

I don't even have 1200s anymore. Sold my last one about a year ago. And I don't really have any use for the Dicer since I don't really goof around with any of that new technology. Shit, if I even had a DVS setup, I can't imagine learning cue point mapping and all of that stuff. I'd simply want it to play digital audio alone, no frills.

But, I do appreciate custom fabrication and a nice paint job.

That's how it starts but you'd change ;). I was like that at first, trying to basically replicate vinyl other than using digital sound but you slowly realize how much easier it is to do little things... cue points/relative mode are the obvious ones. Also having to use the same piece of vinyl that's marked the same way for everything leads you to using cue points more (that's the one significant downside to DVS, it's actually nice to mark records specifically for the sounds you're using when you're rocking vinyl).

Haha it's actually one of the reasons I decided to get Serato. I bought doubles of something I wanted to juggle and halfway through the whole process of skip-guarding them, marking them up with stickers and cue stickers etc I thought, "fuck this, I'm getting a DVS".

re: the original post - pimped out gear is ugly IMO; these 1200s are a perfect example.

cant buy taste

if i were to get anything customed i'd think long and hard about it. and do my own design and just get them to build it for me.

as much as like nottingham forest, if someone took my mixer and plastered their shit all over it, i would not be happy.

The customised Technics I like all tend to be simple paint jobs, just with a nice colour of paint that sets them apart from a stock 1200. I like the lights in the platter and it looks good in the dark. Other mods tend to be technical things that improve the functionality, so they're almost always good if done well.

A guy on DJ Forums does some nice ones: -

He also takes decks like this: -

And refurbs them to look like this: -
