The internet before Google, YouTube, Facebook etc.
scottie(the)goonie replied to Steve's topic in TECHNOLOGY & GAMING
My mom got AOL back in '97. I think I was in middle school at the time. We had a 14.4k moden and the slowest Pentium 1 PC ever. I immediately got my kid's account warned and then banned for typing this into chat: ( . Y . ) BOOBS It was my first emoticon ever used. My Mom yelled at me and from then on I never used a kids account again. -
I picked up the Pixel 8 Pro about a month before the S24U came out. Upgraded from the Pixel 3 Pro b/c my battery was starting to puff out. I know the Pixel fanboys will tell you why it's the best phone ever but TBH it's just okay. It's fast, the camera is great and I'm already sucked into the google garden and didn't want be bothere signing up for shit and remembering passwords. The fingerprint sensor on the P8P kind of sucks. I sort of want to buy the S24U just to see if it's better but I don't really care about phones the way I care about computers.

Replacing RCA's on 1200?
scottie(the)goonie replied to scottie(the)goonie's topic in EQUIPMENT & AUDIO PRODUCTION
Yea, I knew there was noise but I didn't realize how bad it was until I hooked my Serato recently and it couldn't decipher the signal. I thought it was my needles or the control vinyl but nope, it's def the RCAs. When I changed the RCA cables years ago I soldered them myself to the PCB. It's not too difficult of a job since you're touching the tiny tonearm wires. I just figured is I went with the RCA "hub" I wouldn't have to deal with bad cables for a third time. -
I cut/soldered my own RCA cables + internal ground on my 1200's well over a decade ago, but I'm beginning to get a lot of static whenever I move them around. They need replacing again I assume. Has anyone ever modded their 1200 with one of those RCA hubs/port? I've seen them around on the internet, they're not exactly cheap.

@williepee Scratchbox is such a unique mixer. There are very few scratch mixers with EQ faders instead of knobs. I dare say none of them that AND s clean bottom half with wide spacing. I remember the first time seeing one of these at a session. I should have played with it when I had the chance.

This thing is crazy good. I put in "two step ethereal grime" and got exactly what I was thinking in my head.

Yo can someone feed the output of ChatGPT into Bard then do the reverse for an infinite conversation?

Best method for 2 turntable 2 mixer setup?

What mixer do you cut on? I swore you had a HAK back in the days. -
Best method for 2 turntable 2 mixer setup?
scottie(the)goonie replied to scottie(the)goonie's topic in MUSIC/DJ HELP
STEVE FOR PRESIDENT! Man, whenever I get on the S9 fader it makes me not want to scratch. I don't like the thick stem caps and the cut just never feels right to me. Whenever I hop on the shitty XS-8 with the inno I can just sit there and get lost in the cut. So I guess I have to switch the selector between serato and line if I want to alternate between DVS and vinyl? -
I feel like I've done this setup before but I've forgotten the best way to do it. Basically I want to have the main setup + the mixer on the right to scratch on table 2. I plugged "record out" on mixer 2 into "phono in" on mixer one, but I'm getting a ton of noise. The XS-8 is super old and has lots of pot static to begin with but I like the innofader. I can't tell if there's a better way to do this, my old ass RCA cables just suck? Am I doing this wrong?

Best DMC routine challenge (read the first post)
scottie(the)goonie replied to Steve's topic in MUSIC/DJ RELATED
Craze at his best was hard to beat. I think his was one of the last of true analog routines before DVS and scratch nerd culture really took over. Craze also had this genuine style to him in his music, posture, and record control. I think many DJs of his time felt the need to front and put on a hard persona (both in person and in their music) but Craze just sorta went up there as himself and disses were always well placed. As far as the routine goes, it does seem outdated now but has some clever music bits, light (but dynamic) scratching as well as some trickery (fake scratching with his back). With DVS you sort of expect the trick front and center and would be disappointed if there wasn't any in a set. It takes way more effort to create a trick on vinyl records. I think this routine would win even today but so far nobody has been able to really emulate Craze. -
I've been on the road for 6 months. I finally get back in April for good. I need to scratch.

Virgin Media boosting speeds for free again
scottie(the)goonie replied to Steve's topic in TECHNOLOGY & GAMING
Pretty good deal. I get 400 down (useless) and 10 up. I would rather have your service where I live. Have you every thought of just going 5G service and cutting the cord entirely? I've been thinking about it since I'm constantly broadcasting (PDAnet) to my laptop. -

What are you paying a month for that? I pay $80/month (was $55/month for 1 year but they just upped it). -
Quit lying you're doing it for all the hot single moms that'll be there.

My 3xl constantly pisses me off. It has weird freezes, hangups, laggyness. I think it's suffering from being older hardware now on newer software. My biggest gripe is heat. If I'm driving on the freeway and my phone is sitting in the sun it will shut down. I've been stranded before because of that. I'm sure the 7 will feel as good as the 3 did when it came out. Hardware on these phones gets outdated quick.

What games are you guys playing at the moment?
scottie(the)goonie replied to Steve's topic in TECHNOLOGY & GAMING
A LOT of people have been telling me about Powerwash Sim. I want it but I can't stomach a $30 game. Instead of cleaning my place and reaping actual benefits, I'll be cleaning virtual things and somehow reaping the same mental benefits. -
@Steve I actually passed when it was my turn to order it. I had the opportunity to invest in a few "things" while I still had the chance but it tied up about $3000. After seeing some reviews on the deck, I didn't realize just how big the damn thing is. I think I'd rather have a small laptop + xbox controller than try to lug this thing around.

@Steve So I had EA Play Pro for a few months and then got rid of it. I played almost every game in their spawn catalog and wasn't really feeling any of them. Lost in Random and Biomutant were sort of on the same plane for me. I think I'm just not a big fan of 3rd person games even though LIR had the unique dice roll mechanic. The game I had most fun playing of all? Turmoil. It's basically a game that can run on a 1990's computer and it was awesome.
