Wax On
I'd say Matt's on point with 200. When i do a 5 hour set you KNOW every tunes being played pretty much to the end... fuck quick-mixing on a long set. Though that maybe reflects that i'm not that good a dj... Blak Randy
I honstly used to play 4, 5 and sometimes 6 hour sets with a shoulder bag of records. ABout 40 12"s, 20 cleaver compilation albums, 20 7"s and 6 cleaverly made CD's.
Wax On
if you make your own cd's it's a different matter altogether...
djdiggla
This thread totally reminds me why I like Serato. Not that I don't like recs, but fuck carrying 100+ records!

If you want to cut down on records look for compilations, albums and records with good b-sides.

djfoly
LOL ^^ yeh I am so glad I didnt take serato! I could have borrowed it for the night instead I took 200 recs and killed it. I played everything from micheal jackson to dr octagon and it went dowmn well my mates turned up for the last 2 hours and we all played records and talked about where we got them, whether they were original and where the break was it was well good fun which we would not have had if serato was used. its was a bit of a pain in the arse but if oyu are djing with 2 vinyl enthusiasts bets to use vinyl! P.S. fuck serato!
Wax On
it's rare you find dj's with skills generally. it's dissheartening when you meet someone who says he's a dj n you get all excited at the prospect of a good music conversation, only for the excitement to drain away once you've asked him a couple of questions and he's responded with the wrong answers. Theres a lot of guys with skills here certified. we're a concentrated bunch of specialists here. I pick this guy up who reckons he's a dj. turns out he does house n stuff (here we go..Mastered in the art of turning records over / cross over n hope for the best. The crowd goes wild, unable to comprehend or recognise skills).... he carries a good hundred or so, in relation to this conversation. He had some good looking bird in with him he was clearly trying hard to impress, on about. "I can't be arsed doing 'sets' anymore. i'm gonna get someone else to do it for me." (tee-hee, I thought from the driving seat).. "who you gonna get to do it?" she said... "aah I dunno just some young kid" (hmmmm...... this guys the music guyyyyy...... Super-Music TM / 'Incredible Disc Jockey' - registered trademark available for hire / inventor, of all 'bouncy sets' / I was waiting-on untill some bloke sold me about 500 records, all of which i've never heard of, for 200 quid, now i'm Official music legend and authority on all pumping mixing / "Looper? yep yep yep yep i've got one, never use it though, might sell it" / i've got a Fender Stratocaster stringed with my own melted together pubes in the house, I push one end up my arse, pluck my nob with a signed Brian May plectrum and stare at an A3 picture of Axle Rose's bandana'less mullet... most nights) Doesn't know what a DJ is man. It's horrible to see a chump hoodwink those who'd know fuck-all if they seen it n make a living doing it. I imagine him holding both arms outstretched nodding his head on stage like he'd done something spectacular when really he's EQ'ing n still not really sure what he's doing. Kind of like that glakey eyed twat that married Zoe Ball. what's his name again? ps - I dunno where this post came from, or where i'm going with it, but I had a fuckin good laugh doing it. I love you all. That was the easiest-to-follow post that you've posted in a long mate. big ups.
