IDA UK & IRELAND 2014 ONLINE DJ CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS_27.08.2014

Hi Crew.

There will be no LIVE UK & IRELAND Finals for this year and the only open participating category will be "SCRATCH" on-line as we re-evaluate the NATIONAL IDA movement for 2015 and beyond.

"SERIOUSNESS"

We have a lot of immensely brilliant Turntablists in the UK & IRELAND but when it comes to SERIOUSLY SUPPORTING THE NATIONAL MOVEMENT most seem to all of a sudden have amnesia and can't be bothered to get involved. Now I will categorically tell all of yous in that frame of mind that this is of detriment to yourself only as your NONE INVOLVEMENT means you get left completely behind/left in the dark as all the other worldwide contributing/participating DJs & Crews move on and evolve into World Champions etc. "IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT" Answer this. As a Turntablist what have you achieved? Have you achieved your goals you set yourself when you started in this game?

Now read the following...

Take me for example.

1) I'm not a Turntablist/DJ yet I've spent years of my time and money traveling the world to support your movement/this movement BECAUSE I'M PASSIONATE ABOUT IT. YOU MUST HAVE that desire to rule the world. If not you're in the wrong game. There's the door. OUT.

2) In 2009 while filming the DMC World Finals at the O2 in London I met a on fire, wanting it more than any human in this universe DJ Mandrayq and mentored and traveled around Europe with him until he became the 2010 IDA World Champion MY OWN TIME...MY OWN MONEY...C O M M I T M E N T...that's what I do...I don't just talk the talk, I walk the walk***...I'll repeat "I'M NOT A TURNTABLIST/DJ" yet I commit 1,000,000%, 24/7/365, no pay to make this happen for yous. Have you all got that and what I'm saying now ?. And

3) I've also created a website as a kit supply and information resource for not only our National crew...YOUS...but for all our worldwide Turntablist family; again..MY OWN TIME...MY OWN MONEY. "PASSION = COMMITMENT = GREATNESS = CHAMPION" Learn It then Utilise It http://www.gjiggyclique.co.uk/

"Come on guys & dolls I need yous to show some serious commitment and I don't want to be repeating/going over this in a years time. Collectively we need to sort this out as the young ones coming through will also be disenfranchised and loose interest which is not what this beautiful movement's about"

***For those who don't know me and what I do; speak to your fellow turntablists that do..DJ RASP, LOOP SKYWALKER, PRO X FADE, DJ MANDRAYQ, JEPPA, DJ SWITCH, SHIFTEE, DJ DISECT, SPATS, BEATBOMBERS, ARKAEI, DJ NUCLEO, DJ FLY, NETIK, DJ CHEESE...dear I go on????

Nuff said. Lets do this

SCRATCH CATEGORY RULES:

This is a category for solo performers and focuses on pure scratching skill using one turntable. This is a vinyl only

category - DVS (Traktor, Serato etc.) are not allowed. All competitors are provided with the same beat for each round

and have to freestyle over it.

The battle for the World Championship in the Scratch Category will happen online. The national champions must be able

to record clean videos of their entries (at least 720p HD footage, sound recorded directly from the mixer). IDA World will

provide the beats for each round and communicate a timetable with submission deadlines in the GMT+02 time zone.

Because IDA is spread across many time zones, a delay of 24 hours will be tolerated.

Eliminations: 1x 90 seconds. All DJs enter, 4 DJs (+1 with the highest number of video views) advance to the semi-finals.

Semi-finals: 1x 90 seconds. 2 DJs advance to the finals.

Battle for 3rd place: none.

Finals: 1x 90 seconds.

VIDEO ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Please send YOUR VIDEO (HD 720p MINIMUM RESOLUTION) to: ida.ukandireland@gmail.com / CC. gjiggyclique@yahoo.com.

Subject: IDA UK & IRELAND 2014 SCRATCH ENTRY

DATES:

**IDA UK & IRELAND ENTRY START DATE: MID SEPTEMBER (EXACT DATE TBC)

**CLOSING DATES FOR EACH ROUND (TBC)

For now please notify me of your interest to participate by emailing me YOUR FULL CONTACT DETAILS to: ida.ukandireland@gmail.com / CC. gjiggyclique@yahoo.com. Subject: IDA UK & IRELAND 2014 SCRATCH CATEGORY PARTICIPATION and I will update you all on dates and changes as they occur.

I'm not good enough at scratching to enter imho. I'd like to do IDA tech/show at some point but am really busy this year :(

I will not be entering this year or any coming year in this particular competition. Good luck to all the other competitors.

This makes Panda sad :(

I imagine someone could arrange to represent the UK in the tech/show categories by contacting IDA World directly and offering to pay their way to the finals and their accom. So if anyone here is really interested in competing and has been training towards it I'd suggest doing that.

Guest It'sPhilFromThursdays

I was gonna say something along the line that Rocky et al have taken, but couldn't be arsed. It's what i thought, though, honest.

I was surprised by this email i got earlier in the year, though:

DEAR CUNT!

ENTER MY CONTEST, YOU FECULANT GORRILA'S TESTICLE!

THANKS!

Kind regards,

Tony Prince

It seems like it de rigueur for scratch comms, these days.

How come? I thought you were skipping the DV battle to enter this one?

That was last year. I managed to win the national title which hasn't meant anything really, and no prizes to this day.. not sure if they gave stuff to symatic as he was second place and repped for the nationals when i had to pull out of it. Hopefully they did otherwise that means no one got anything prize wise for repping UK/Ireland in their comp.

After I had to back out from hand pain they treated me like a waste of space by not replying to my messages to the IDA fan page. Loop skywalker, the uk repp for IDA, who was pally with me when i was in the competition suddenly stopped replying to my facebook chat messages asking about the situation (seen at: 18:45pm type shit).

They made posts on their page about me 'unfortunately' having to back out of their competition while ignoring me. That says to me that their public image is what they want to protect and it has nothing to do with respect for the DJs like its mentioned in their credo. I would have prefered them to have a go at me than to do that. I can understand them being annoyed for my backing out on short notice close to a deadline, but I dont think they even attempted to understand things from my perspective. I spent a week of 8 - 12 hour days recording over the same fucking loop for them with growing levels of burning tendon pain before i decided to pull out..

While we're on the subject I might as well mention a few other things.. The loop they gave out in the first international round was meant to be the same for everyone.. For the polish entry it wasnt though. It really pissed me off at the time to see this too because here i am cutting over a small loop for days on end with growing burning pain and then later seeing someones been given the same loop but with an extra section added to it to make it more interesting.. Polands DJ Ben (im a huge fan of Ben by the way and this is in no way a critisism to him, its directed at IDA only) was given a newer version of the same loop everyone else had but with a changed section later in it.. Look at the videos for yourself. its a small thing, but a change in structure helps cuts to change to match that change and keeps a loop fresh.

They also sent out an email too during the competition, which threatened to permaban entrants from ALL future IDA battle events if they didn't submit on time after there was an extension to the submission deadline. Lovely stuff.

I just read the first post in this thread in full. I don't really understand why he's taking that tone. It doesn't seem like it'll entice people into entering.

Yeh.

I could write another essay on how idiotic that post was but I'm done writing about IDA. Other people have had a good experience with them so I know my story isn't the be all end all. It's just not for me though.

I asked loop last year if there are prizes at national level and he said i would expect to be seeing stuff. To be fair the way shit seems to be organised with that group probably meant that loop wasn't entirely sure when he said that so im not pointing the finger at him and to be honest at this point i could care less about getting some dj gear i have to sell on. I do know though that in 2009 or 2010 when a mate of mine (captain crunch) came second nationally doing a juggling routine for IDA online that he got some dicers and a few other little things.

All very shitty. I totally see where you're coming from chile.

Particularly irksome that they go on about being all about the DJs and the tablist community but can't even be polite to them or make good on what they were promised.

It's ironic that he's talking about the UK scene like it's some kind of corpse fading away from apathy straight after last weekend, when I got to go to arguably the best scratch-based gig I've ever been to - redonkulous skill levels, loads of enthusiasm and interaction between DJs and crowd, plus the friendliest atmosphere you could ever wish to find in pub full of friends, strangers and acquaintances. Then the next day I got to attend a great bi-monthly scratch jam, with it's own strong community built entirely on scratching in SSS. Now I'm super excitedly looking forward to the DV battle, which based on interest and last years battle will be immense, featuring a skill and content level to rival any other worldwide scratch battle.

All these events, are not only happening right now and fucking great, but are put on for no profit by the scratch community for the scratch community. We don't need any bullshit or attitude to contend with, we're too busy with making our own scene.

To add to my previous rant...

I could also add all the free loopers being constantly churned out, the tinychat scene where like minded DJs from all over the world get to cut and socialise together and make their own connections, plus people like Si and Darcy, Leighton putting out their own scratch records. Even Scratch Science is hardly mega corp and just DJs doing it for themselves on a slightly bigger scale.

Yeeesh, sorry to hear Chile/Ritchie. IDA Canada was pretty fuckin wack to me too. It's a shame because IDA World has been really good in all my experiences but the national branches are allowed to do their own thing, doesn't seem to work too well though.

Anyone can approach IDA or DMC for the contract to hold the events in their own country and there's only so much IDA can do to ensure that things are done properly on the other side of the planet. But for most DJs, their experience of DMC/IDA etc etc is at a local level, so this is where the reputation of these events is most at stake.

So far my experiences with IDA at local and World level have all been positive.

yea, IDA works differently from DMC on the local level AFAIK. DMC seems a lot stricter on local branches, the DMC Canada organizer has told me about having to keep DMC World updated on flyers, even turn outs, etc etc, and they check up on him constantly. I think IDA is more laissez-faire and their only responsibility is to send someone to the world finals.
