doppelkorn
Just came across this thread on some other site. I could waste a good evening there I don't see why, in the popular imagination, the 80s gets such a kicking as a culturally empty decade. I love a lot of things form it and popular culture since about 2002 has just copied it FFS! Mind you the 90s were a copy of the 60s so will the 2010s be a copy of the 70s, the 50s or the 1640s? johnny 1 move
I reckon the 80s biggest problem was that mother of all bitches Thatcher... if you don't remember what it was like then just wait till these budget cuts kick in

djfoly
Luckily just like the 80's labour have run us into the ground. We could keep spending, but we would be even more fucked than now . Rich southern tory scum! We could also take away bankers bonus' or stop spending billions on shit that makes the lives of rich people easier. Why do community centres have to shut? Why not fucking horse shows or shite plays sponsered by the arts council. nah fuck that rich people like that shit...lets get rid of the NHS so the 'lower classes' can all die and we keep all the doctors to ourselves. TORY SCUM YOUR DAY WILL COME!

Wax On
Based on the little i'm aware of, i'd agree with Matt re labour running us into the ground this time - i don't know enough about the 80s to comment. I WAS TOO YOUNG
doppelkorn
I'm well clever and I did my A-levels and all that shit and here's what I think: New Labour wasn't really labour and they presided of a widening of the gap in wealth that anyone with any kind of social conscience would be ashamed of. I was going to write "any socialist would be ashamed of" but that's the labour party for you - it doesn't stand for anything. You should base your opinion of left-of-centre polotics/policies on New Labour's period in power and shouldn't use it as an excuse to then switch your allegiances to the right to a party that's about 50% worse at all the bad stuff New Labour did! There's amillion things wrong with politics in this country (not just this country) but any time I start a thread on it it dies. Then I start one on 80s music and it appears out of nowhere. djfoly
that kenny lynch tune is a heater! if were gonna get serious about this the 80s is a big decade for music most notably for me as I grew up during. I was most influenced by electro pop soul as a young lad the likes of MJ whitney the pointer sisters etc but since then I have found where they knicked all their ideas from the wonderful world of boogie down disco or electro soul. heres a couple of recent finds that I can yet afford! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU0Ua9YJwgw
Wax On
they're both nice Joe I think the thing i like about the disco/boogie stuff is that there's plenty of decent stuff to be found for cheap...at my local record shop i'll find a few hot boogie 7s for 50p-£2 whenever i go I grabbed this the other day i think for 50p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJtXQVK-Bi0
