Sideshow
[copied from another forum, sounds good though] DANNY HOCH'S Award Winning Independent Film JAILS, HOSPITALS & HIP-HOP Original Score by Mix Master Mike Special Guest Vocals by Afu-Ra & the Perverted Monks, Don Parma and Tony Touch Freestyles by The Disciples (Brooklyn) & Doble Filo, Instinto, Obsesion, Primera Base and Los Rapperos Crazy de Alamar (Cuba) Cameos by Bonz Malone, Lemon and more! Written by Danny Hoch Directed by Mark Benjamin and Danny Hoch Rated R Running Time: 90 minutes ONLY $19.99 (USC) + Shipping & Handling! Purchase online at http://www.JHHtheFilm.com/ In Jails, Hospitals and Hip-Hop, Brooklyn actor, performance artist and Hip-Hop activist, Danny Hoch, masterfully brings to life eight distinct characters shocked by global Hip-Hop, the prison system and life in general. Moving in and out of characters while the camera cuts from film narrative to live performances, Hoch makes you look at cultural power in a new way that is hysterically funny, tragically sad and uplifting all at once. The Cast of Characters Includes: BRONKS a street vendor, inspired by the entrepreneurial American dream of the little girl selling lemonade in her front yard, is now in jail for living it out his way. FLIP, a 17 year old, wanna be rapper, from Montana, doesn't wanna be White. Flip's down with the "Montana Gangsta Blood Thugs," is highly influenced by Rap videos and likes to pretend that he's being interviewed by Jay Leno on the "Tonight Show." SAM, a tightly wound prison corrections officer who was "forced to strike and contain" an inmate must visit the psychologist immediately following the incident. GABRIEL is a sharp witted 19 year old whose mother smoked cocaine while she was pregnant leaving him with a speech impediment. A going away party is in session for his speech therapist, Lynn Schlansky Hoch, played by Danny's mother whose work as a speech therapist inspired this piece. VICTOR was shot by a cop "accidentally" (he thinks) two years ago while joyriding in a stolen car with friends and as a result, must use arm braces to walk. During an awkward conversation at the hospital where he attempts to ask a pretty girl in the waiting room for a date, he reveals his dreams for the future. PETER is a Cuban engineering student and a very observant Hip Hop fan who sells claves to tourists in Havana. He meets an American and among other things, asks him to explain explicit lyrics from such artists as Too Short and Snoop Dog. ANDY is a veteran living with AIDS in prison. He served in Vietnam, served at McDonalds and is angry and frustrated that now he needs services that aren't being made available to him. EMCEE ENUFF has just released his 14th album "Where is the Joy" on Murder You Records and is being interviewed by David Letterman. Enuff admits to spitting violent misogynistic lyrics just to sell records but at the same time feels a responsibility to be a positive role model. As himself, DANNY tells the true story about the invitation to appear on the TV show, "Seinfeld" as "Ramon the pool boy" and his subsequent creative disagreement with the directors over the ethnicity of Ramon. Shot on location in New York, Los Angeles and Cuba and during Hoch’s college tour and performances at prisons, Jails, Hospitals & Hip-Hop, captures the immediacy, power, and humor of Hoch’s live performance, while encompassing cinematic elements necessary for a successful transition to screen. The film expands on the stage version of Jails, Hospitals & Hip-Hop which spent 11 weeks at New York City’s prestigious PS 122 before touring over 25 US cities and colleges. Jails, Hospitals & Hip-Hop theatrically premiered in New York City in October of 2001 and in Los Angeles in December of 2001. The film has also been featured in many festivals around the world and has garnered many awards. It made its world broadcast premiere on Trio in June of 2003. ------------------------------------- About Danny Hoch: Danny Hoch is a globally acclaimed actor, writer and solo performer. trick
On a vaguely related note: listen out for the January edition of Turntable Radio, as there should be a MMM interview on there. Laurent hooked up with him last night and by all accounts it was a pretty cool interview.

Rick Flarez
There was some sort of plot involving a jealous husband and someone being framed for murder or something, but it was just too horrendous to take in. Whiteboys just took the absurd stereotyping of Black and White to dazzling new heights.
Rick Flarez
AYO!! This film looks kind of good in some ways and kind of suspect in others. Why does the main character have to be a white guy? The bit where the cop is talking about how he used to be a graf writer got the alarm bells ringing: "In the 80's, on my block, you either picked up the paint, or you picked up the pipe." :s But then Wild Style and Breakdance etc were all exceedingly dodgy movies, so maybe it'll be bad meaning good.
