Jon
Going to start a thread for this as craig's post got completly overloaded with people arguing for me Jackson DKMG-Dinky (which i really liked) or Ibanez (and which one)? I'm getting my mates 3 month old Randall wh40 dimebag camo amp Guitar influences include: Rage Against the MachineToolDeftones [around the fur-> present]Team SleepIncubusLimp BIZKIT (guitars and tables only )NirvanaPapa Roach [infest era]Funeral for a FriendFightstar and all those post hardcore bands (In flamesAt the gates for occasional mad solos) Let the arguing commence
Paul_Caruso
Hmm, I've always preferred ESP/LTD for metal guitars. Do you want a floyd-rose?2 Humbuckers? 2 humbucker + a single coil? budget?

Guest sirchickski
Ok Rusty prob doesnt know these technical words so ill keep things simple.. Rage Against the Machine - from that video you showed me Rusty its an Ibanez Tool - IbanezDeftones - same person as in team sleep so i dont knowTeam Sleep - dont knowIncubus = gibsonLimp BIZKIT =dean guitars (guitars and tables only wink.gif )Nirvana (no iedea)Papa Roach =ibanez and gibsonFuneral for a Friend = gibsonFightstar and all those post hardcore bands = gibson (In flamesAt the gates for occasional "mad solos" = IBANEZ) My solution Ibanez Single Cutaway Which is cross between a gibson and an ibanez lol not cheap though so probably not worth it. But statistically.. in the ranks in my total guitar magazine for best guitar makes it goes: 1)PRS2)Ibanez3)Fender4)Gibson5)Jackson6)BC Rich7)Gretsch8) the rest lol then practically reverse that in order of average price. PRS would be most expensive although Ibanez aint bad they average at about 400 to 600 quid. Two most common Ibanez body shapes..not the paint though.. bottom one is used by steve vai and top one no one famous that i know has one as they aint cheap. Jackson: or two most common jackson body shapes. Floyd rose is only recommened if you can get a lock on the nut and bridge ask your shop dealer about that though. Ibanez use Semore Duncan and Di'mazio pickups two of the best pickup dealers around except for fender stratocasters but that aint cheap lol! I dont know what pickups the Jacksons use as they have never been my choice of weapon. Recommendly Jackson is for Metallica/Slayer/Slipknot sound prodominatly. Ibanez is for long list but Joe Satriani/Steve Vai/John Petrucci/Nearly all solo artists as they know what they want with tone/In Flames... < big range of musical types there. so to decide.. if you want to stick to one type of sound that being heavy slipknot for example then Jackson.. if you want to experiment with tone and play many types of sounds then Ibanez. rygon
ive got a jackson ps4 performer and its great for heavy/thrash metal..but as i progressed i wanted a more bluesy sound which i didnt give (playing an encore £100 jobby now) still looking for some humbuckers to make it sound a litle bit bluesier. but ive got to say the feeling of the guitar is great. id recommend going to a few places and trying the guitars out...remember the higher priced guitars dont mean they are better. go for one you feel comfortable with and how you would like to progress..ask the dealer as they know a lot about what they are selling

sasquatch
i have a late 70's japanese squier tele and it plays like a dream, sounds great too - cost just over £100 and smokes any ~£400 guitar i've played
rygon
You went from a Jackson to an Encore?....are you serious?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>well i had the encore 1st ..but its made very well and plays superbly ;..as a blues guitar it kicks arse on the jackson...although technically the jackson is much better (especially with the floating bridge) i also have a tanglewood acoustic which, for the money, is the best acoustic ive played (cant afford a martin just yet) all im saying is try and go for the guitar..not the make
Guest sirchickski
WHAT! lol ! Make is very important! At least im glad to here the encore was your first choice not the second. For blues you should be looking at Fender. Make is important cos they specialise in music sound. If for example as you say blues.. why aint ya going for a PRS or Fender? They are the top dawgs for blues man... Hendrix used a fender stratocaster and so did Stevie Ray Vaughan, two of the best blues playes around using the same guitar there must be a reason. Not turning this into an arguement just saying lol ... BTW how long you been playing guitar?
rygon
i bought the jackson because i used to be really into heavy metal (metallica being the best) so i bought a guitar to suit that style..but as ive grown up id stopped listening to that music and started listening to blues more. Im not going to sell the guitar as its not worth it. but for buying a fender i cant justify spending that much money when ive already got 3 guitars. im just saying that go for a guitar which suits your style rather than the name and how it looks..ive seen expensive guitars that look great but for one reason or another havent felt quite right. ive been playing guitar on and off for 10years now

Guest sirchickski
lol were did u get the price info from.. cos thats not true I think i mentioned about the fireplace story but he didnt put it together.. experts did. Ans he played with a half penny dont know if any of you know that but i have to disagree with rygon, make/models are important as they are all unique sounds but i do agree with go with what feels best but not if its a very crap make lol Weather it feels right doesnt justify how long it will last/quality of tone etc.

Altho the link doesnt go into detail about his father though. But yer the fireplace made of Oak Wood.. not very clever .. though wood catches fire from what i used to remember lol

Jon
i'm going to try out one of these. then look for a better price: http://www.instrumentpro.co.uk/P-IBARG1520G.html
stalk
like I said back then, i bought a BC Rich Mockingbird (Platinum Pro Series) and it's your best bet for heavy sounds. Jackson Dinky is a good choice too. As for Ibanez, the better models (not the GRX ones) are pretty costly. If you can get your hands on a used Schecter or Vester, I'd consider those as well. Other names that come to mind are Kramer (Autopsy used those), Hamer, some Yamaha guitars.
Guest sirchickski
The Ibanez RG are awesome guitars.. John Petrucci solo artist and lead guitarist in Dream Theatre and one of the members of G3 uses one. And as DJRusty pointed out.. Papa roach use one. Jon
I'm going to go try out the dinky and the rg this week and then decide between them. I did love the tone on the dinky, but i i admit im a nooooob so i'm open to other things.
Guest sirchickski
Can you gimi info on the dinkey.. ie its pickup types wood type.. ? Least i can work out how good it is that way as i not fond of dinkys never seen any one with one. Which is quite surprising considering i only know guitar players.
