  1. i texted someone i hadn't known that long a few weeks ago and at the end i put 'ps graham norton phoned and said you dropped your gay card' because i thought it was really funny, but he didn't acknowledge it at all, and i got worried he might think it was a bit out of line... i don't know anymore, i just don't know. everyone knows that 3 letter words are funnier than 4 letter words anyway, bum, nob, gay and div are just much funnier. ps think i've managed to sort my life out wax, should have your thing tonight, touch wood...
  2. betterising is pretty next. well done
  3. i've got the parts, not from numark though, when i rang the bloke on the phone had to confirm off the record that it was the ta7259p chip that was suggested on the fix that's floating around the web, he seemed to know exactly what the problem was though but said that numark wasn't supporting it (their fix was to bring out a new version and pretend the old one never happened) and they wouldn't sell any bits. the chip is freely available over the net for about £8 or something. ballache to fix though. i don't want technics because the pitch range isn't good enough without going for the silly money mk5gs (and even they're not excellent), for mixing it's handy and for sampling it's even handier to have the 50%, also i prefer the feel of a slightly higher torque. having said that the str8 150s are *really* torquey, maybe even too much, but they seem to have the best build quality after technics but with all the features of a ttx. i wouldn't say it's clear they're not made to last really, i don't know how you'd gauge that...
  4. they're pretty good speakers anyway bro, not least for that price!
  5. i just think it's more fun than staring at the wall from that close. plus, one nice dj does it, so does everyone. it becomes part of the schema.
  6. nah it's an old version but they were unwilling to sort me out even though they knew they were ripping people off when i rang em about the last one. not having ttxs again whether they're fixed or not for that reason. i need decks sooner than the new chips are going to arrive though, guess i'm going to have to eat into my overdraft again. i have a mate who wants £430 for his str8-150s without carts and he says it's a bargain, but ebay begs to differ. i'll see if i can bring him down and if i'll probably go for pd45s.
  7. my other deck has just broken. luckily i decided to actually get around to fixing the one that was originally broken yesterday and had the presence of mind to order not one but two parts. as soon as they're fixed they're out the fucking door though. pieces of shit.
  8. i'll be honest, i feel deceived.
  9. you are a bumping whore phology. this was fresh though. where did you perform it, and what was live and what was sequenced?
  10. i couldn't say for sure on any of these but http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/?m_manufactu...lter_type=basic there are at least a few choices. i would guess that the edirol ma15-ds will have the best sound and the behringer and m-audio will be the loudest but they're just generalised guesses... for under a ton there's not going to be much difference between the good ones, they're all going to be 'okay' at best for serious monitoring purposes but you should definitely be able to get some that are loud and crisp. the edirol's bass enhancer will be handy for listening or scratching purposes because the monitors in general will probably be a bit flat in comparison to stereo ones, but obviously you'll get more bang for buck just getting active monitors and no cd player or whatever. if there's anywhere near by that you can test then i would, you won't really get how good they are for monitoring but you'll get a sense of the loudness and bass response. plus if you can find somewhere try your best to lean on them for a deal, sound control can easily knock 15% off most of its stuff if not 25% in my experience. i'll have a scout around in a bit and see if i can find some evidence of a 'best in class' type solution bro...
  11. i make no guarantees as to the state of your equipment after this but it does work... use a household grease remover especially with orange in it, lightly work into the record with a soft cloth, then wipe clean with water and dry. then play the record forwards and backwards (if you have reverse) with a very heavy needle a couple of times on 45. clean the record with the cleaner and then water again, and it should play significantly better. like i say, this could well destroy all your equipment, but it works- brings out all the handruff off the record and turns a 1960s 45 that jumps every rotation into something crisp and clean sounding.
  12. cheers. i like number 1... number 7 too. 5 basically sounds like that dirtstyle beat, did you sample it? will be cutting to number 1 in a bit...
  13. yo, i'm not 100% sure because i don't use the itunes store but i think you're fine with scratch live and itunes seeing as it syncs with it. like i say, don't quote me though. I used unrarx for ages for rar files, which is like a script, it's a bit crap to be honest. i now use the unarchiver, which is pretty damned good- it replaces the bomarchivehelper app and adds shell compatibility to just about every compressed file type... http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html hope this helps
  14. safe bruv- congratulations, and i'll pick one up when i can
  15. to give you an idea i had scratchlive running on an athlon 2600 with 512mb ram and 7200rpm hdd desktop computer with the latency just a tiny bit above the minimum settings with no issues whatsoever. with this in mind, you'll almost certainly be able to run it at minimum latency with a £300 laptop from pc world. it's going to be build quality that you'll have to pay attention to at that price, but i have some mates that bought £300 laptops from pc world about 4 months ago that seem nice and sturdy and i'm confident they'd run scratchlive perfect. there's probably even more bang for buck now than 6 months ago too.
  16. it's on the intro to don't leave by blackstreet too
  17. i got a guitar on wednesday, hopefully i'll be level 8 soon
  18. the mpc either works for you or it doesn't- it's not an all in one machine and it does have plenty of limitations. it's at home with a setup that includes a synth or 'proper' sampler, because otherwise all you'll have at your command is what is ultimately a very basic phrase sampler. if you love chopping up samples and making that kind of music, an mpc is worth a look, it's got a very simple way of working which doesn't really teach you anything technical, which is a blessing and a curse. the roland mv8000 and mv8800 are worth a look if you're not into computers at all, because they have a built in sequencer, synth engine, etc etc. software alternatives are probably easily the most bang for buck- a top end mpc or mv will cost you more, or at least the same as, a brand new macbook with logic 8, or a super fast windows pc and reason or cubase and a couple of plugins. if you've already got a computer, i'd say at least trying software demos is your first port of call...
  19. search for completed items on ebay, average it. subtract £50 if it's for/from a mate.
  20. Yeah, for sure mate. I wanna wait until I get Serato though, cos I'm always stuck trying to find decent samples to use. I should be getting it soon hopefully. fresh, look forward to it
  21. bonzer mate! still fancy some sort of collaborative effort by the way?
  22. real nice bruv i like the drum sounds!
  23. i still love this bro. mix wise it sounds a bit flat generally, which is the best starting point really. the only thing i would do is pitch up the drums a few cents, have a feeling they'd sit better. would you fancy sending me the individual tracks and i'd have a go at mixing it down? it'd be more a favour to me than you really i'd quite like to approach someone else's track- can't guarantee it'll come out sounding any better than you could do yourself. this isn't a ploy to pinch your samples honest peace
  24. is that a standard shape for small venues or what, i know about 5 long thin live music dive bars that look exactly like that bro
