  1. What kind of decks are those? Shit looks hella old!
  2. I personally didn't like it much. Maybe the one I tried was in terrible condition, I don't know, but the faders felt horrible and upfader curves were bad. That said, I liked its EQs and the fact that they lit up.
  3. Yeah. Alright, thanks. I think I'm going to go with the Axiom.
  4. Thanks for the reply. As I asid, I'd only be using Ableton, and it would be on a Windows computer. I hear these are some of the best 49-key MIDI keyboards, so I wanted to choose out of those two. So you think I should go for the Axiom out of the two for Ableton? I tried out the Axiom, and I do enjoy the feel of the keys, and the pads are okay, although most people say that the MPC is much better. As an owner of the MPC2000XL, I don't think the pads are that much worse.
  5. Nah. I'm in the US. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  6. Hey guys. I need a MIDI keyboard, and I narrowed it down to the M-Audio Axiom 49 and the Korg Kontrol49. I'm not worried about the extra cost of the Korg, I can cover it. However, I can't seem to decide which one would be better, I'd be using the MIDI keyboard with Ableton by the way, where I'd be sequencing and mixing. Please give me your thoughts.
  7. Got some new furniture for my room: My meager collection of vinyl and random crap, as well as a little bit of my bed. Still need to get an M-Audio Axiom 49 and put it on my desk, monitor stands and Event 20/20 bas monitors to put on the stands (which I would put on either side of the desk), hence the gap between the desk and the DJ table. Also in the picture is my stereo (which isn't connected) and TV, which is hooked up to my PS2 and Xbox (which is connected to Live) in case I don't want to make music, mess with my turntables, surf the internet, nap, or talk to anyone on AIM. Sadly, my Akai MPC2000XL is tucked away behind my laptop at the moment, not even plugged in. My Technics 1200s and Rane TTM 56 mixer, still need to buy a secondary mixer for that PDX-2000MKII Pro, so for the time being, it's all lonely. Everything together at the moment.
  8. I don't mean to hijack, but I'm thinking of getting an Axiom 25, does anyone know if I'll run out of octaves on that? I'm not a piano player so I don't care much about having to switch octaves and running out of room and all that, but that would suck if it didn't have many octaves...
  9. haha, I hate clutter. I just got lazy. And thanks.
  10. I just got back from school for the summer and I've barely unpacked anything, so my room is a freaking mess. Wires and shit everywhere. My other 1200 is stashed away since I can't put it anywhere. :freak:
  11. will it be getting a review on skratchworx? Anyone know of a sequencer close to that on the MPC? I want to work on the computer, but the MPC's sequencer is the only one I can use thus far.
  12. The PDX-2000MKII Pro I bought from eBay arrived at my dorm today! Yay. I know my gear is a bit dusty, but my dorm collects a mad amount of dust for some reason. And I just cleaned my decks a few days ago. Luckily I'm leaving in a week. Can't wait.
  13. Nice. haha. What I did was put the needle on a locked groove for 48 hours. It was good after that. I don't know though, I think 48 hours is a bit long. The 48 hours was because I forgot about it. lol.
  14. True. My bad, I forgot that most DJs are straight mixers. Still, even if beginning DJs do not get one of those mixers (which are not bad for mixing), they should at least get those decks, or better. You still would not want your faders on your mixer bleeding, and you still want strong torque. For mixing purposes on mixers, I like the Ecler NUO series and stuff from the Pioneer DJM series. The Rane Empath is good for hip-hop and drum n' bass in my opinion. Even my Rane TTM 56 is prety good for mixing whatever, although when I mix, I primarily mix drum n' bass, hip-hop, and various forms of house and trance. Either way, my point is to start off with great gear that will last you a long time. Starting off with shit is never the right answer.
  15. Right now, I have two Technics 1200s, a Rane TTM 56, a Vestax PDX-2000MKII Pro, and I'm going to get a Rodec Scratchbox when it comes out here in the States. I say that's some good quality gear. Now. I started off on the Stanton DJ.lab 2 with two T.60s, an M.201 mixer, and 500B carts. I wanted to get into scratching, and my friend told me to get direct drive decks, as he had a Numark Battle Pack. He didn't know anything about torque or anything. Anything, so I got the Stanton stuff. Stuff was made for mixing. So bad to scratch on. The torque on the decks were horrible, the platter stopped whenever you touched it, and the carts were not scratch carts, so they skipped everywhere. The mixer bled after a few weeks, the EQs were horrible, and the sound quality was terrible overall. After a few months after getting the Stanton pack, I got a pair of Vestax PDX-2000MKII Pros and a Rane TTM 56. My scratching instantly got better, and the sound quality was tons better. After that, I got some Techs, got more light-handed, etc. And my scratching is a lot better now. So what should people do when they want to get into DJing? Save up the money, and get a decent setup. AT LEAST a pair of Gemini PT-2000s (which are actually decent decks) and a Gemini UMX (which is actually a decent mixer) or a Numark Pro SM-1.
  16. That actually seems like a common problem. Weird. Mine, when in a mixer, worked fine. Now it's mixerless, but I plan to stick it in a mixer soon.
  17. Alright. My mind is completely settled. From the testimonies I heard from Bubba and the 08 owners, I'm going to save up the extra cash to get the Scratchbox when it comes out here in a month.
  18. Hmm...I know, but I just don't know. How are the upfaders in terms of quality and sharpness? Do you use them a lot then? They're ALPHA railglides, roughly comperable to a Vestax PCV. But you can drop anything you like in there. My 5 year old OG Xone:02 came with the same ALPHA railglide on the crossfade as well, and that lasted over 3 years and still worked when I replaced it. They've just confirmed a set of fresh new paintjobs on the faceplate and PRO-X crossfade as standard on the Xone:02 now, don't know yet if they will hike the price at all The only thing to mention about the upfaders is some don't like the way that using a sharp curve produces a cut at the bottom, not the top. I don't have a problem with this but some people do -it would be nice if A&H made it switchable for the new update. EDIT make that CUSTOM faceplates... A&H will hopefully be issuing faceplates with custom designs, you just send them your file by the look of it. They look mint... I can't work out if it's only going to be aftermarket or how much it will be but fuck it, my old faceplate looks like I took wire wool to the fader area so I want one! Yeah, I use my upfaders quite often and quite extensively. Oh, the sharpness thing makes it sound like the same system Rane uses. Not sharp on the natural setting, and the sharpest cut is on the bottom. Lame. As for the faceplates, I hear they're going to be expensive. And not very available in the US.
  19. Hmm...I know, but I just don't know. How are the upfaders in terms of quality and sharpness?
  20. I'm looking to buy another mixer (and sell my 54i). I have a Pro X Fade, and I'm looking to pop it in somewhere. Of course, I want the Scratchbox for the obvious reasons (its third channel looks real good), but I don't think the price justifies what I guess. I haven't tried it out yet since I'm in the US, but at $1,000, I don't know if I want to buy a mixer of that price for good quality. The Rodec is nice because I could eventually get Infinium upfaders for it, but the PMC-08 upfaders are nice enough as they are, and I like all the curve adjustments, and the sound quality is pretty good too. The Xone:02 has really nice sound, and I really like how I can listen to both the line and phono inputs of a channel at the same time. I don't know about the upfaders though, haven't heard much about them. Also, I like the price of it, as price is a HUGE factor here. Any advice? Thanks.
  21. I'm looking for the "cut it up fresh" sample. I know Ricci Rucker's first Utility Phonograph Record has it, but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone know of any other place I can find this elusive sample?
  22. Damn, that's awesome. Some of those faceplates are awesome. Maybe we can make our own eventually....?
  23. I wish I could pirate an MPC. Or if they had a program that basically had the exact same sequencer of the MPC2000XL and I could use an MPD16 or something, because then I'm also not limited to 2 MIDI OUT and 2MIDI IN ports like on the 2000XL. Unfortunately, there isn't one that I know of.
