  1. Here is my notation... you can use it for free http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/9141/scrnyx2.jpg The height of a box indicates the sound level and the length.. guess.
  2. Err, who ever says that Mac OS X is the most secure system talks trash. There is no way arguing that anything can be more secure than OpenBSD. However Mac OS X is quite secure by design (strong separation of user spaces, clear file permissions, admin ≠ root etc.). It is more secure than XP, dunno about Vista though.
  3. Same with Chris. iTunes, like any other Apple product, is just not for everybody. If you like to do things the way Apple wants you to, their stuff is great. If not its terrible. When supporting people new on a Mac i see that all the time. The learning curve gets steep as soon as they figure out how Apple wants them to use their Mac. E.g. the double adding problem in iTunes seems to come up when splitting the lib. I have my lib splitted too but it took some time until i figured it out how it can be done. Obviously Apple didnt think on this when designing iTunes. Same with the tagging feature: there is one workflow which is extremely fast, if you want to do it any other way that feature is shite.
  4. hm, strange problem. I lost files when i moved my lib and had some incorrect file permissions. Do you use multiple libs / external disks? The best way to do so is to press alt when starting iTunes, this allows to hook in another lib. On Linux, i love Amarok. Great alternative to iTunes. Sadly the Windows port isnt that stable yet and Amarok on OS X requires Fink.
  5. You can already buy them.
  6. deepmix moscow. Minimal is great as background sound.
  7. Cant wait for a Mac version. The German Federal Office for Security in Information Technology (BSI) advises not to use it though.
  8. yep, dunno if they still make it but i have that one: Ortofon Scratch. Same with the QBert needles: They sound like shit and burn records. I prefer the M44s too.
  9. Nice one indeed. On a Superseal the pattern is kick snare kick and i guess he uses both kicks. At least i do. Drumming is kinda more fluent when using both.
  10. Nah, get the MacBook Pro. The casing is much better, the screen is better and the processor might not be slower, depending on the models. Don´t care too much about the age, Macs last long. I´m writing this stuff on a 5 year old Power Mac G4, my mate still has a 4 year old iBook in everyday use. For gods sake: maintenance! A Mac will never be slower if it is maintained right. Get Onxy for your version of OS X. Use it to repair disk persmission and run the crons. After a restart your system should be fast again.
  11. Imo its a question of your OS. Using a Mac firewire is great because Apple made most of the specs. I use a Motu828mkII fw together with am Mac and i never had any problem (even when firing the DAW before the interface), latency is close to zero. On a PC firewire won´t be implemented that good so PCI will be better as x2k said.
