FINDING MUSIC/FILES VIA GOOGLE & BLOGS

Loads of the links I've posted up recently are to directories I've found using Google. This may seem obvious to some of you, but there are ways to get specific results. For example, searching for this: -

"index of /" "hip hop" mp3

....including the quotes will bring up some directories of mp3s containing hip hop in the title. The "index of /" part searches for a directory, the second term is your search term and the last part is the file extension you are looking for. It's worth looking for zip and rar files too. You can also add this link to your favorites: -

javascript:void(q=prompt('Search%20for%20Mp3:'));if(q)void(location.href='http://www.google.com/search?client=googlet&num=100&q=%22index%20of%20/%22%20%22'+escape(q)+'%22%20mp3')

When you select it from your favorites menu, a box will appear. Type in the artist or album you're looking for and hit OK. That one is geared towards mp3 directories, but you can change it to search for whatever you like.

The second way to get hold of some good material is to use blogs. If you're into hip hop, check out this one as a starting point: -

That's The Rookie's blog. There are a handful of obscure mp3s to download there, with more added every few days. If you look on the right hand side, you'll see a list of links to similar sites with yet more mp3s. Blogs are becoming so popular that you'll find ones dedicated to posting links to albums and even yet to be released material if you search hard enough. Another excellent example is Soul Sides: -

http://www.soul-sides.com/

Here you'll find all sorts of mp3s and articles including hip hop, old breaks and soul. Most blogs specialise in out of print stuff with the occasional new track thrown in as an album sampler. I get dozens of tracks a week via these sites.
