unwanted static/noise using rane ttm-56 master/cue button

Recommended Posts

hi all

I've seen others helped on this forum about this mixer

thankful for any ideas here

like the title says, when I engage the master/cue button, I get a little crackling noise

if it weren't audible outside my headphones, it wouldn't bother me as much

but I suppose I should deal with it anyway

I use caig lube (with the needle) on my fader successfully

I've used deoxit on the eq pots and that worked ok

but with the button, I'm not sure how to proceed

I don't have any magic bullet answer but if it was mine I would start by trying the detoxit and if that doesn't help check the soldering to see if there is a cold or cracked joint. If the reflowing the solder didn't help then I'd probably try to replace the button.

Also, these mixers are getting to an age where capacitors are failing. I had to recap the power supply on mine a few years back. If all of this is over your head it wouldn't hurt to send the mixer off for servicing.

hi all

thanks for your suggestions

I'm pleased to report that the deoxit seemed to work

I did a few passes with it and worked the button some

came back a little while later and it was much better!

only just a faint pop sound now

also hit a few other pots while I was in there

I'm now wondering

deoxit comes out as liquid

it doesn't pool or attract gunk where I spray it?

can I do multiple applications over minutes, hours, days without ill effects?

should I be using it regularly to maintain my mixer, or just when it seems necessary?

kind of funny I should be asking these questions literally over a decade after I first bought the stuff, but hey :)

thanks again-

You should not overdo with the deoxit. A good clean now and then is good.
I would say I go over my mixers every 4 year if they are in use.
I also dont have any mixer covers and my place has a lot of pets so there is dust and hairs everywhere.
The proper way of cleaning is to take the mixer apart and clean everything with isopropanol. Then you should apply some contact spray. If you like deoxit use D5.
For fader rails I suggest to use a small amount of teflon spray. That is also what rane recommends.

hi, thanks for the shout and advice-

can relate to animal hair ^_^

but try to keep my stuff covered up

I've been using caig lube on my fader rails for awhile now, works good

rane was a good company, not sure about now

I remember I could just call them up and chat

they'd send me free stuff, fader caps, stickers, etc.

thanks again
