everg
hi allI've seen others helped on this forum about this mixerthankful for any ideas here like the title says, when I engage the master/cue button, I get a little crackling noiseif it weren't audible outside my headphones, it wouldn't bother me as muchbut I suppose I should deal with it anywayI use caig lube (with the needle) on my fader successfullyI've used deoxit on the eq pots and that worked okbut with the button, I'm not sure how to proceed
Jam Burglar
I don't have any magic bullet answer but if it was mine I would start by trying the detoxit and if that doesn't help check the soldering to see if there is a cold or cracked joint. If the reflowing the solder didn't help then I'd probably try to replace the button. Also, these mixers are getting to an age where capacitors are failing. I had to recap the power supply on mine a few years back. If all of this is over your head it wouldn't hurt to send the mixer off for servicing.
Steve
Welcome to the forum, everg! I agree with Jam. Hopefully it's caused by dust/crap that will be flushed out with the contact cleaning spray.
everg
hi allthanks for your suggestionsI'm pleased to report that the deoxit seemed to workI did a few passes with it and worked the button somecame back a little while later and it was much better!only just a faint pop sound nowalso hit a few other pots while I was in there I'm now wonderingdeoxit comes out as liquidit doesn't pool or attract gunk where I spray it? can I do multiple applications over minutes, hours, days without ill effects? should I be using it regularly to maintain my mixer, or just when it seems necessary? kind of funny I should be asking these questions literally over a decade after I first bought the stuff, but hey thanks again-
Backtrack
You should not overdo with the deoxit. A good clean now and then is good.I would say I go over my mixers every 4 year if they are in use.I also dont have any mixer covers and my place has a lot of pets so there is dust and hairs everywhere. The proper way of cleaning is to take the mixer apart and clean everything with isopropanol. Then you should apply some contact spray. If you like deoxit use D5.For fader rails I suggest to use a small amount of teflon spray. That is also what rane recommends.
