Both of my wrists click several times when I make circles with my hands, if that makes sense. I sometimes wonder if it's worth jacking it in altogether, before I fuck myself up in the long term.

It doesn't help if you tense your limbs when you cut but sometimes you can't avoid it, particularly when you're learning difficult/fast techniques.

I had a week off because my knuckles were killing me. I thought that the pain would go but I could only manage 5 minutes today before it flared up again.

I'm beginning to worry about it.

Don't push it. Do a lot of stretching, make sure you warm up properly, and maybe ice it if you have to. Take care of yourself, because RSI is real. I don't have RSI but I've had a lot of temporary pain from over-practicing. I think when you push it is when you cause permanent damage, but there's a good chance that if it just started suddenly and noticeably that it's maybe some sort of tendon strain and probably not permanent. Just rest and take proper care of yourself when you get back.

Or me, being as ive had heinous, crippling probs with this that i've largely got to a managable point.

Warm up slowly. Warm down slowly. A must!

Don't stretch before cuts, but to stretch to warm down. Common thought now is that stretching before exercise is a no no and i found it much better when i stopped doing it before.

Relax maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Scratching all tense defo didn't help me.

Scratch on both sides if you can and are sooper cule like me. It's another thing that lets me scratch for ages now. I think it just gives a break from too much repetative movement.

Sacrifice one full grown human man for every three days of scratching.

Emit a high pitched bark like a fox when you finish your lunch everyday.

Finish your lunch like you mean it. Don't let anyone take that away from you.

Stop focusing on lunch so much, it's dinner time, baby.

Don't tell me what i can and can't say about lunch. You're not the boss of my lunch.

Enough with focusing on lunch so much. You're far too focused on lunch and lunching.

See now your hands don't hurt and you've had a good meal. Lunch.

I found my GP has been pretty crap for this, I've had physio that reduces the pain for a short time but someone at the Musicians Union told me about BAPAM, they offer free consultations to musicians (my pains are drum machine related). I'm off to see a specialist today. I'll let you know how I get on.

i've had pain coming and going over the last few years. in fact i think thats the reason i joined this forum to ask about what to do haha.

i have had pain on my index finger on my fader hand, and i've probably stopped scratching so heavily withthat hand - i noticed in an old video i had recorded around then that my finger used to remain fairly extended and i'd tap the fader with it, where as now i have more of a motion based in my whole arm and wrist which is much lighter and doesnt stress that finger so much.

MORE IMPORTANTLY i got a ergonomic mouse - my job involves a lot of mouse clicking and i noticed the same pain was flaring up because my had was angled a bit awkwardly when i use a normal mouse, so i got a sideways one (may not be right for you but that shape worked for me) so my hand is not in that position and i havent had that pain since. it did take a few months to dissappear though.

my record hand sufferes a bit right now because im trying to learn those bumpy knuckles techniques, i think i do it too hard so i'm learning to make the whole movement less intense and more efficient.

a record doesnt need to be pushed that hard to make a good noise, learning how to be very light on the record and fader will sound better as well as not destroying your hands :)

+1 for computers being cunts...

It's the trackpad one a laptop that causes me much pain (and touchscreen phone). Having a trackball has definitely helped.

yeah trackpad's another killer. i think that even reducing the mouse related business atr work has helped a lot, but yeah i should have a ergonomic mouse at home as well
