Steve
That's the disk defragmenter. Weird. Are you using a third party defragmenter like Disk Keeper by any chance?
Dub-Se7en
nope. i've got diskkeeper but havn't installed it. i think a quick virus scan may be in order but i'm sure i'm clean. the system doesn't appear to affected by the problem, i was interested to find out why it's loading up... Clownstyle
Ive had that before...Does it happen when you are shutting your system down by any chance?
2ndhand
if it is disk defrag then it may be trying to access a part of your disk that is fubar. will the disk scan ok, or will it defrag without hanging?
2ndhand
it sometimes can be a path that is too deep - ie too many subfolders - and at the end of the chain is a fat folder with loads of booty.bring that fat folder closer to the root
Steve
You got a version of Photoshop installed? That particular program shouldn't be running unless you are defragging. I assume you are using XP or 2000 so why are you running a FAT32 file system?
Dub-Se7en
nope. no photoshop. i run FAT32 cos i run a dual boot (me and xp pro) in case i have a problem i can back up safely. plus i can access my data in dos if i need to.... Steve
I have no idea then mate. If it was explorer.exe that was causing the problem then I might have an idea. The fact that the FAT32 disc defragmenter is running and causing that problem confuses me man. Maybe it could be a sign that your HD is on the way out. To be honest though I haven't got a clue.
