DJ Rock Well
Hopefully one of our resident techsperts can help. My Maschine controller dates back to the product's original release and one of my rotary encoders is really playing up, causing whatever it's controlling to jitter around on the screen until I give it a few more random twist to settle it down. Can this be cured with lubing? Any ideas what lube? If lubing isn't the answer does anyone know the spec of these encoders and where I might get more from? I've got someone who could change then for me if I can find the relevant part.

Guest rasteri
You can sometimes fix dodgy rotary encoders by spraying contact cleaner into them and then turning them a few times, but usually they need replaced. This is probably the stuff you want : http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/servisol-contact-cleaner-200ml-jp17t - although any spray-on contact cleaner should work (not WD-40!) MPCStuff has *used* maschine rotary encoders for a frankly ridiculous $20.00 ... - http://www.mpcstuff.com/nim-pot.html ...But they look like fairly standard 12mm encoders (which all have near-identical PCB footprint), so I'm willing to bet something like these will be interchangable : http://www.amazon.co.uk/10Pcs-Rotary-Encoder-Switch-Keyswitch/dp/B0085I4D5C Or if you're feeling brave you can try dismantling the encoder and cleaning the contacts directly. DJ Rock Well
Jimmy - cock off funny man! Rasteri - thanks mate. I've got some of that servisol spray somewhere from years ago... failing that, I think the Caig Deoxit I use on fader rails will do the same job. MPCstuff is always pretty ridiculous IMHO. They make there money selling cheap parts to people who don't know any better and are afraid that stuff from general suppliers will work I their machine. If lube/cleaner doesn't work I'll have to open it up and try cleaning the contacts or working out the spec and replacing it.
DJ Rock Well
I think long term I could probably do with replacing all the encoders - only one's a real problem but several others have their moments. All the rest of the controller is fine too.
motosega
when you find a compatible encoder, buy 20 and sell them on ebay"l@@k: ORIGINAL OEM maschine encoder replacement NOT MPC NOT SP1200!!!!!" BUY IT NOW:20$ Shipping : 199$
DJ Rock Well
Yep, that's about right motosega! There's probably a viable business for someone out there to sell basic electrical components for music gear without charging "specialist equipment" prices. Wax On
Is anyone else's maschine USB port real loose? Or is it just me?
DJ Rock Well
Yep, Mk1 USB ports were pretty shitty. MkII has a much better one.
assemblyworker
Is anyone else's maschine USB port real loose? Or is it just me?Yeah on my OG Machine... Also I've been getting rogue MIDI messages due to the iffy connection. It's worth checking that's not the cause of the other issue.
DJ Rock Well
Thanks Matt, but I think it is just the encoder as its the top left one which is used more than the others and has steadily declined in the last few months. Every once in a while the master turns itself to 0 for no apparent reason though - this could well be the USB.
