ericuk
I have folders made in windows that have sub folders. For example. 90's/party etc When I started Traktor I just told it where my music is kept and analysed the tracks. Hey presto. It worked. Serato dj is not so user friendly. My folder tree to the left is empty. My mate seems to think I have to import every sub folder individually and its gonna take about 3 hours, then over night to analyse. Fuck serato if this is the case. Am I missing a trick? X
Steve
Click on Files, then browse through to the root folder containing all of your music, then drag and drop that on to the "All..." icon. That will import all music in that folder (and sub-folders) into the library. You will have to analyse all of your tracks if it's not been done before and Serato does not respect the folder structure AFAIK, so even if your music is organised into folders, importing music in this way just dumps it all into Serato unsorted. If you have a root "music" folder, then inside that you have folders that you want to be crates in Serato, you will need to drag and drop each of those folders individually into the crates view, which will create a crate for each one. Dub-Se7en
http://alchimiedj.com/ alchemie zinc will mirror your folder structure to your crates, but you have to pay for it. or there is itch sync, but it's not click and go, you have to write a small txt file to tell it where your stuff is, it's easy enough to do https://code.google.com/p/serato-itch-sync/ here's a guide on how to use it https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&ved=0CGQQtwIwBA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D6uqWO1jLzXU&ei=etG5UuPHKce3hAegqYHgBw&usg=AFQjCNGFQyNMOkU9W86S11hFKfAESY92zg&sig2=CpcGCgLQSQc33tkbWJ-IBw&bvm=bv.58187178,d.ZG4

ericuk
so i've added crates. not fun. if I add a file to a folder in windows, does this mean I will also need to update the corresponding crate in serato also? I have a feeling the answer will be yes!
Dub-Se7en
afraid so
ericuk
Im sure that its not a big deal if one stays on top of things, but I prefer the way Traktor updates the music library based on windows files contents. If the folder exists in Windows it becomes accessible in Traktor. I've got a Traktor mapping for the ddjsx. Its not the optimal set up but at least it works. Scratching isn't an option
Dub-Se7en
itch sync will do exactly what you want, it just involves adding a little line of code that states where your collection is and where your serato db file is. you can run it initially and it will create crates to mirror of your music folder, after that, next time you run it it'll add any new files to those crates
ericuk
OK. Please tell me how to do this. Treat me like the retard I am. I will be in your debt. I'm currently using Traktor with my controller but its going against nature. The ddjsx wants to get nasty with Serato.
Steve
Have a look here: - http://code.google.com/p/serato-itch-sync/ All the info on how to use it is at that top of the page (click the appropriate bit in the "How do I run it?" section).
ericuk
I haven't got the chance to try it until tomorrow, but if this works, I will literally jizz on the spot. All thanks to you guys. X
ericuk
I installed the progranme. Had a few issues but think I've cracked it. Instead of jizzing, I just got a headache. Thanks for the heads up though folks.
ericuk
ok next complaint. I set out my display to include bpm, bit rate, time and comments. However, when I looked in a different crate, the view is still on default settings. Does this mean I have to customise EVERY crate to view the information I would like? I'm not wearing a Serato Fan Boy Tshirt any time soon!
Dub-Se7en
no, untick customise crate views in settings and changes will be global. i prefer it to be customised so can organise certain folders differently
