Matt
Dear Mr Matt, Beware illegal file sharers. We would like to bring your attention to the following articles: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/03/11/is...e_sharer_order/ http://newswww.bbc.net.uk/1/hi/entertainme...sic/4318765.stm We would like those of you that are file sharing illegally to be aware that should we be required by the authorities to provide the details of those customers whom are sharing files illegally we will, without hesitation, provide this information. We will also, if required, provide the authorities with a log of the activity from your ADSL connection. We would advise our customers whom are sharing files illegally to put a stop to this activity. Not only is it illegal but it is also a breach of our terms and conditions. For those of you that use file sharing for legal purposes this does not affect you and you can disregard this email. In the near future we will be carrying out spot checks on our network to ensure that users are not illegally sharing/downloading files, any users found to be sharing/downloading files illegally will have their E7even accounts terminated in accordance with clause 6.1 of our Terms and Conditions. This does not affect the majority of our customers but there are some who do partake in this activity. If you are unsure whether your activity on the Internet is legal or not please contact our customer services where one of our operatives will advise you. Email: customer_services@e7even.com Tel: 0870 224 5126 Fax: 0870 224 5127 We thank you in advance for your support in keeping the Internet a safe and legal place. E7even Customer Services i'd love to know who they determine the "Authorities" as being... anyone else had any emails similar to this from their isp? Steve
They can only provide those details if ordered to by a court. If they give them to anyone without a court order then they've broken the law themselves. The paragraph on monitoring the network is interesting though. Isn't that a bit like listening in on someone's phone conversation? I wouldn't be too impressed with that. It's an invasion of privacy. Guest Mike Reezy
its a scare tactic, run a firewall when using any file sharing shit and youre good (for the most part)
Steve
A firewall doesn't make any difference. An ISP can monitor any traffic going through their servers. Also, if your PC is connected to mine and data is transferring between them, I can find out your IP address and there is nothing you can do about that unless you know a lot about MAC and IP address spoofing. djdj
The internet is being clamped down. Pretty soon, you won't be allowed to run your own website at all. They will call it Pirate Web. Unless you are a corporation. ;0) Ya get me. Enjoy the freedom while you can. Also, keep your hand in the underground. It's like a game of team DOOM. We underground heads will win out. ;0) +++ Fair play to people doing it out of a greed for profit. We are talking about the difference between SHARING and illegal profit. Why the F>ck shouldn't I share what I paid for. The Chuckers in the record industry have MORE THAN enough. They piss away most of it away on junk they don't need anyway. £15.00 for a CD. Yeah! 20p for the CD and £14.80 for the executive parking space. Blah!!!! pz! Edited March 13, 2005 by djdj
