Jon
Read my earlier posts mate, I've never heard of it called that outside of this thread. Definetly check the Machinedrum album, one of the best releases of last year in my opinion.
Chris
As I said to Jon earlier, if we gave him shit for Future Beats then we're letting Yoshi off if we don't pay him the same courtesy for Hoptronica

Guest petesasqwax
To me, synth chords over beats no drummer ever touched isn't progress. Speed it up and it's "progressive house" (ok, flippant but you catch my meaning). When this sub-genre appeared it was IDM and featured the likes of Ko-Wreck Technique, Beneath Autumn Sky, Funkstorung etc & I could get with that big time. Raw beats, vocal cuts on the hook & whatever else you wanted to throw in there (moog basslines, echoplexed mid ranges) - I'm not necessarily stuck anywhere other than in hip-hop & all this post-Dilla weak beat shit doesn't have that mostly. I dig Dabrye, I dig a lot of Ras G but when it moves too far from music I can trace back to hip-hop it just loses the appeal for me. This can't touch the Chocolate Industries etc stuff to me so I leave it alone. Obviously it isn't for me & that's cool - there's plenty of shit that is... & some of it was even released this century...

Guest petesasqwax
Got no complaints about Mr Abrahams from what I've heard so far - some nice stuff definitely. My favourite music right now is being made by friends - Buddy Peace, Carlo (who made a great LP last year that is currently unreleased) etc. Which probably sounds well wanky to say but likeminded heads make shit I wish I'd made myself
Guest petesasqwax
On a similar style to s.maharba there's Floan, Chris Devoes & to an extent Clams Casino, all of which are decent enough. Out of that stuff I probably prefer dfalt & inceptdate. Kelpe has excellent moments but mostly reminds me more of Plaid than hip-hop
