Giraffe Dung
you know, i can't fucking stand reggae. i was hoping this thread would point me in the direction of some 'proper' reggae, stuff i'd been missing and just thought i knew what reggae was, but no! i just think it's meandering, monotonous shite. i don't even like bob marley. at all. what's wrong with me??! Wax On
you know, i can't fucking stand reggae. i was hoping this thread would point me in the direction of some 'proper' reggae, stuff i'd been missing and just thought i knew what reggae was, but no! i just think it's meandering, monotonous shite. i don't even like bob marley. at all. what's wrong with me??! I think to be fair, the stuff i'm liking is probably the more cheesy stuff to be fair, the more ballady stuff. Not really bothered about the dubby stuff. The stuff i've been checking's nice enough, but it's not pushing my buttons likea nice slice of jazz funk or soul does. As for dubstep, i just can't connect with it, there's nothing in it which appeals to me. I'm a funny fucker though...for example, i'm listening to R Kelly's first album whilst i type this. My mind's telling me no, but my body, my body's telling me yes! Giraffe Dung
no, sorry. it's not as if it's my least favourite music ever, i would rather listen to it than that super mega death metal where it sounds like black sabbath on fast forward with a pig being spiked over the top, but just every second it's on i get more and more frustrated with it. i can't quite put my finger on it. Giraffe Dung
lol wax isn't it funny the coded messages r kelly sends in his music about the fact he's a paedophile... i'm not going to anymore matt. i am not doing quotes properly and this is getting extremely confusing. mighty atom
i like barrington levy! :$ i am so confused as to what reggae is to be honest. I think the confusion arises because you have artists who's careers span 30/40 years and if they started in the late 50's/60's their sound will have gone through, ska, reggae/lover's/roots or whatever and then into dancehall. Also the work rate of some of the artists was so prolific that they would bang out so much material . . .some of it fucking awful. Even my idol Barrington has done his fair share of howlers. Be careful when diggin for reggae in charity shops, boot sales etc . . just cos it's on trojan don't mean it'll be good. If you're diggin for reggae with no knowledge 9 times out of 10 you'll come back with gash.     gash . . . .  good . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw3PImkJhU0

Giraffe Dung
gash . . . . Â good . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw3PImkJhU0Â OH COME ON SHINE IS A CLASSIC!!! Â dub fire is great, i had no idea that that would go under 'reggae' though, i would have classed that as dub, so is dub a sub genre of reggae? i thought it was more a 'sister' genre, if you know what i mean... see i am completely ignorant really. i'm gonna have to go and do some reggae reading i think... i'm still completely confused because now it appears i do in fact like reggae. djdiggla
Yup... basically, it's all offshoots of Roots Reggae or offshoots of offshoots.
mighty atom
I was reliably informed by Aqua Levi, that Dub simply means "drums un bass" . . . .I mean just listen to it, It's just stripped down versions of riddems where the producer was able to flex their creativity. It's still essentially the same music tho
