so now im using one of those wireless internet satellite things because i live in a shit hole and i don't have a clear view of some mountain so amn't eligible for normal broadband.

anyway my network connection keeps coming unplugged and i have to restart my computer to fix the problem. i can surf for hours but the very minute i go onto a one of those sites streaming films or start downloading then it just goes to crap after around 5 mins.

i called up the company and they sent someone round. although he was helpful he said the problem was with my computer and not with their connection.

how can i check this without sending my PC back to dell??

also there is this guy in our local area who fixes computers. his sister used to be in my class and i had about 50 pictures of her from her bebo saved onto my HD. i deleted them now but if i have to send the computer to him how can i be sure that they are really deleted?

The statements / questions are a bit vague?

You say you have good connection MOST of the time, except when visiting certain sites?

Which browser do you use?

I recommened firefox.

You shouldn't need to turn on and off the computer. Most 99% of settings should be changeable directly in windows.

Regarding deleting files, Open explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View

Then Uncheck Hide Protected System Files and Check Show Hidden Files

Then go back to explore and you can see any files that may be lurking around.

Check the Recycle bin and make sure everything in there is deleted.

Also make sure to Empty Temporary Internet files from IE or whatever

Hope this helps!

peace!

I don't really have a clue about the nature of your problem from your description, but:

I'm going to make an assumption you're talking about HSDPA here (aka 3G internet). I'll should warn you about it, I've been looking into HSDPA for my next laptop as I travel lots, and the data packages are shocking. The '3' network for example charge you 30 odd quid for the first gig, then about a pound a meg afterwards. At that rate if you went over by a gig (not a lot), you'd owe them a grand. I think Voda charge a flat 15 per gig. It's still a very very expensive way to get porn.

If you're covered by 3G I'd be very surprised if you can't get at least basic ADSL. It's almost unheard of these days. Get proper internet. Or steal it.

ok im living back at home now because college life wasn't working great. i thought it would be nice to get broadband because otherwise id be bored and shit. so the only connection we can get is satellite broadband. you know we get a satellite on the roof and then a connection from that directly into our computer. we have no box or anything.

so sometimes when im surfing the connection will just cut out. like it says that i have limited or no connectivity. i can fix this by unplugging the cable from the back of the computer and plugging it back in like 30 seconds later. if i plug it out and plug it back in straight away then sometimes it won't reconnect. i called the broadband guy out to my house and made him some tea. then i waited a while until the connection broke and i said "see there its kinda fucked". he went and got his laptop from his van and then plugged it in and connected. he was able to connect fine. then he started using all these techy words which i have absolutely no recollection of and said the problem was with my computer.

this can't be true can it?

i think that the problem is with their connection but why does it keep cutting out but comes back on when i plug it back in?? computers are complicated.
