Compressing Wavs to 320 kbps Mp3's

WinLAME does it too mate.

Drag your WAV into the WinLAME window and hit next. Tick whatever boxes you need to tick on that screen, and hit next again. On the next screen choose "Archiving: Best Quality" from the list of encoding options and hit next, then hit the play button as normal to encode. That encodes the WAV(s) at 320Kbps CBR.

If you don't have the "Archiving: Best Quality" option, then you're using an older version of the program. Grab the new one from the site and you'll be good to go.

LAME is automatically gapless as long as you're using a fairly recent version.

320Kbps is the highest quality you can get as far as MP3s are concerned, but to pretty much everyone, using that setting is overkill. I can't hear any difference between using the V2 (VBR) setting (the "High Quality: HiFi, home or quiet listening" setting in winLAME) and using 320Kbps CBR, yet the VBR file is nearly half the size of the CBR. You can also choose the "Custom settings" option in winLAME and choose your own quality level for VBR encoding - the lower the number, the higher the quality, with V0 being the best.
