  1. Well you could always have some decent instrumentals on your phone and put them on repeat. Not seamless but the easiest option.
  2. Yeah TapeOp is truth! I'm going to be publishing the magazine in the UK in March 07. Subscriptions will be free so I'll holler on here and get people signed up!
  3. Mista_Ed - have you thought about getting some decks in your set up? I crack myself up, really I do!
  4. Fun Lovin Criminals in 99 or 00 I reckon, I was but 16!
  5. Not to labour the faking point but if it's not marked internally and photos will do just fake it, take a photo of a couple of LCD displays and draw some diagrams. Figure out basically how to do it and then write it up. If I've learnt anything from doing GCSEs, A-Levels and a degree it's that trying hard to do the fun stuff and getting distracted from what's actually getting you the marks is an easy way to not get the marks. If you spend 5 minutes making up the fact that you did it you can concentrate on doing well. Seriously.
  6. The thing is if you're doing it for coursework it doesn't really matter if it already exists, whoever's markingit won't be into DJing, they'll just assume you did everything. Also they won't be investigating/care as to whether there is a market for the product, if you say in your write-up that there is one then that's good enough! You don't need to know how to beatmatch at all to do the "within 4%" option, it's just maths. What's 95bpm + 4%? 98.8bpm What's 95bpm - 4%? 91.2bpm If you can get it to show all titles with a certain bpm I'm almost certain you can specify a range as well (between 91.2 and 98.8). Finally could you explain the first question of the questionnaire? Also, fake the questionaire results. Make up 10 yourself and multiply the results by 5.
  7. Cheers, That 5-series looks sick! I was thinking about getting one for my next car but I'm moving to London so won't even need the Benzo.
  8. Sirchickski, no offence mate but I hope you know more about turntables than guitars! fucking hell, I've cringed at every one of your posts! Firstly, regarding brands that other guitarists use: Are you on crack? It doesn't have a toggle switch especially for doing the Tom Morello stutter sound, it's just a (very conventional) pickup selector! The same as found on a Les Paul or a lot of other guitars with two pickups. I certainly don't think that the guitar is cheaper because of it! The lack of tremolo doesn't make it cheaper either - some people just don't need one - it's just an option. The way you're talking, Ibanez have accidentally fucked up designing the guitar and now have to sell them off dead cheap because no one wants all of the apparently rubbish features they've included. It's a cheap guitar because it's made cheaply! It's not the best wood, won't have the best pickups or hardware and it will have been assembled in the far east for very little money. More expensive guitars will have improved their product in one or more of these areas. It's like saying a Ford Focus is a shit car because it hasn't got the features of an Aston Martin. It's not shit, it's just built and targeted at a different budget and market. My advice Rusty is that if you want to play heavy stuff, you will need a humbucker in the bridge position. You can do mellower stuff with that type of pickup but a single coil will struggle with the heavy stuff. You may or may not want a tremolo (either locking or vintage style). It's all about longevity really, if you are just learning you will definitely not need a whammy bar it's hard enough trying to figure out where to put your fingers and pick without the distraction of divebombs and scoop and doops! When you are a proficient soloist you may want to get into tremolo action, you can either decide to equip yourself for that point now or get a different guitar with those features when the time comes. Bear in mind a Floyd-rose type trem is more difficult to change strings with, more fiddly to setup (ie. if you decide to change string guage [thickness] or string height etc) and is also difficult if you like to change tunings regularly. eg. Standard to drop D for different RATM songs. I say go to a guitar shop, and see what they've got at what price that you like the look and feel of. For £200, if not less you can get a very respectable guitar these days. I would just do the research and make sure the one you like is fairly priced, as long as you've paid the right price and you like it there is no rip-off really. If it's a reputable brand, it's not going to fall apart or anything it's just down to whether you like it or not. I have been playing for 8 years now and those are my thoughts, sorry if anyone got bored or offended by them.
  9. Hmm, I've always preferred ESP/LTD for metal guitars. Do you want a floyd-rose? 2 Humbuckers? 2 humbucker + a single coil? budget?
  10. Thanks, that's a really informative review. I will definitely check out the Whitelabel! That's the main reason, I'm looking elsewhere - for my DJing needs the 44-7s are perfect but I was ust wondering if I was missing out in some way when it came to listening and sampling. I'm far from an audiophile, I'm certainly not looking for a £350 Grado or a £500 wooden cartridge made by virgins in Japan. Just something cleaner. Thanks for your help.
  11. Ok, been thinking about getting a separate cartridge for listening to records/ripping vinyl. Maybe a design which mounts to the tonearm (Ortofon Concorde style?) so that i can leave my m44-7 on the headshell for easy changes. I just thought I might appreciate something a bit more transparent than the bass heavy shures I've got now.
  12. One of my cartridges has never had a nut on one of the bolts holding it on, anyone got any idea where to get new ones from? Anyone ever bought any?
  13. Have you got a mixer or soundcard/interface that can provide phantom power? If so you're good to go. I like the Rode NT1000 if you're looking for something simple or a Studio Projects C1. You may want a shockmount for the mic too. I got my NT1000 off ebay with a shockmount for £100, which is a good deal.
  14. If you get Mixvibes it'll probably be like getting some no-make trainers at school mate. If I was going to get anything, I'd download DJ-Decks http://www.djdecks.be and buy a sound card and serato vinyl. It's much cheaper and at least the stuff you buy is independently useful!
  15. http://www.keepvid.com Paste the URL, choose youtube from the pull down and then you can save the video as an .flv file. You can play FLVs in VLC Player.
  16. I use Beyer Dynamic DT-250s they get a bit uncomfortable after 4 or 5 hours but they are built like a tank and are very transparent soundwise. About £75 from Academy of Sound. Here's a link to a large picture
  17. I got shelves not crates. I have these sections: Hip Hop I would play out (A-Z,) Hip Hop I wouldn't (unsorted,) Stuff with guitars or electronic instruments in (ie. metal, indie or kraftwerk etc.) and rubbish - meaning bought for sampling not listening or crap I haven't bought myself. If I'm playing out, I pick the records then put them back all nice and tidy.
  18. For digging digging, I'm not sure. But if you want a record shop with good varied rotating stock at very reasonable to cheap prices check out Soul Alley in Grand Arcade. It's near Richer sounds between New Briggate and Vicar Lane.
  19. I use Doc's Pro-Plugs but I like the look of those Alpine ones above. I wear ear-plugs everywhere where there's loud music - gigs and even clubs. I really want some of the £100 custom moulded ones though - you're supposed to be able to mix with them in!
  20. Talk About A Girl by Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf ( Album : Big Shots ) Errr why what happened? Oh okay Okay okay, I give in You got a friend? Then meet me and my man arooound ten You see I play a Too $hort tape Just to let you tricky little girls know I'm not fake A little anxious school girl get comfty Dim the lights and unplug the phone cause it bugs me I'm wearin' Timbs with a .22 at my waist Apple juice is cold and I'm in the place Sometimes I think about you (*echos*) Sometimes I think about your whole crew I got style, so I relax Knowin' I wanna dive in it, it'll take twenty laps Hop in my mom car and lets take a ride Then maybe you will realize I know she saw me (*echos*)
  21. The problem is simply that your soundcard is shit! You could try some universal ASIO drivers from here: http://www.asio4all.com Otherwise, what I used to do was (if you're scratching) play the sound you're using at particular points on their own. Like when you start to record you've got the beat running so you play aah, 2, 3, 4, aah, 2, 3, 4, aah, 2, 3, 4, aah, 2, 3, 4 Then when you've finished recording, before you play it back line up those 4 aahs on the beat. The rest should be in time if you were!
  22. I have a Stanton SMX-501, P&Gs for all upfaders and crossfader. Very sharp to very smooth cuts. Short, Medium or Long Throws for upfaders, reverse. Effects loop. I really like mine!
  23. I've seen that mag before while I was waiting for my girlfriend getting her nails done or some shit. I got dead excited then it all became clear [sigh].
