  1. ^^ I love that one- how it goes "I'm going to show you a lesson in art... yo-" and then he goes into an aaaah routine. Hm... I like the vajra one 'I-I-I-I I turn it out, with different sounds on my records' and also the wavetwisters 'can you say aah?'... c
  2. Yeah, since Live 4 VST effects and instruments have been supported. Actually effects might have been implemented in v3... no dx/dxi though. I love Live- it's so pretty for a start and that helps me work c

    Mudslinging?

Ah that's interesting, I didn't know that Have you tried getting your local directory out and googling for all the businesses, then calling them up if they don't show on google and explain your service and the benefits and so on? Call and maildrop every two or three months to make sure that people remember you, people instantly trust a name they've heard of before over a new one... sorry i'm rambling and i'm sure you already know all this, i'm just a little sleep deprived and trying to prove to myself that I'm not doing marketing for nothing c

    Mudslinging?

What's that little stat? Get a good experience you tell 3 ppl, bad experience tell 9? If you're in it for the long haul then word will travel... same as it will for the guys in it for a quick buck. Have you considered getting a sponsored link? The only people who'd go through those sites won't have a clue what's good and what's not, and so being up in lights will instantly get their attention... c

    Mudslinging?

If you start mudslinging then they'll probably come back hard, and considering there are more of them then there are of you and they're already using shady practices, it's not gonna work out great imo. Probably better to use word of mouth to poopoo them and position yourselves as the only company in Raleigh NC with dignity c
  6. I like the look of the iAudio range, anyone any experience? c
  7. I don't find it a pain arranging stuff in Reason- obviously there are different strokes for different folks but I actually find it easier than Cubase. Recycle is an invaluable tool if you use Reason and chop samples, as you can keep one file but have all the slices in it, it's convenient and quick to use... It would be a lot quicker if you could record into Reason and do similar stuff straight out of the box, which u need to rewire it to another sequencer to do, but an advantage of sampling externally is being able to save your samples into a personal catalogue. I'm only saying what I prefer though, I tried what you've thought about Stalk (but with Live), I just found it a bit simpler the way I do it c
  8. Personally I wouldn't agree that the sound quality in Reason is poor, nor that it's 'uncreative', par se- as Snuff says there are definitely some annoying omissions but Reason comes into its own when you start using it in conjunction with other software. I use Audition and Recycle to sample and slice, then import into Reason. When I've made a beat and it's time to record audio onto it, I rewire Reason to Live (which makes the combo use Live's audio engine), and go from there. Occasionally (but fairly rarely) I use vst effects on the Reason channels, but I don't really use vstis as I've usually finished the track before using Live. After using a mastering plugin on the whole lot, the track's done and sounds crystal, usually. If you're just using Reason you can still achieve excellent results, and at the same time you'll be learning what things do because of the fairly minimal interface on most of the instruments/effects... The way Reason works is very logical, and after a few hours of reading the tutorials (it's always worth pressing tab to see how things get wired up), something will click and you'll suddenly 'get' it, in my experience... sorry for the ramble, lol! c
  9. No mate. When you convert a wav to mp3, a small portion of silence is inserted at the beginning and end - not a lot but enough to fuck things up when you try and burn a gapless cd. That's just the way mp3 is. The only exception to this is if you use the LAME mp3 encoder with the nogap switch, but that doesn't always work. A cue sheet is just a text file written in Notepad. It tells your burning program where to insert track markers without physically splitting the mp3 into separate tracks. Doing it that way you get no clicks or gaps between tracks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oic, learn a new thing every day thanks c
  10. I'm not sure what you mean about the clicks Steve, is that regarding cue sheets? c
  11. yeah, when burning the cd go into the properties of each track (from your burning sw) and remove the 2 second gap (put 0 for 0... ). Every burning software I've ever used puts this in by default, no idea why... c
  12. hello mate, i sent a pm a week or two ago but I have the feeling it was lost with all the server trouble or something... I'm looking to get some ttx1s, as cheap as humanly possible (test, preowned or exdemo models are fine if u can get your hands on them)... any idea of total costs inc shipping to the uk? holler c
  13. i agree completely... christ now I know how the luddites felt! c
  14. why the fuck are physical mediums so much cooler than pure digital ones?! tapes, minidiscs, zip discs, wax... who's with me on recording everything we own onto tape and minidisc and burning our local hmv and virgin?! or is it just me?! c
  15. btw, i've never used either (apart from the feel of the buttons etc) i have to say, but for a few quid more than a trigger finger u could have a Korg MicroKontrol... as soon as I get a bit more spare cash i'm copping one straight off... c
  16. There's plenty of free ones, some compare to the commercial ones and some... don't, it's a case of testing really- if you're comfortable getting cracks then there's not much point testing the free ones I suppose the ones I said are all quite expensive but all are crackable (so i've heard ) but there are some incredible free vst plugins- z3ta+ comes to mind, one of the nicest sounding vstis there's ever been... happy tracking mate c
  17. you might be able to connect the torrent you're using to another tracker with seeds if the file's the same, i *think*... it'll involve a quick delve into the helpfile to see how to change the tracker url. If not, and the torrent's one big avi, you might be able to use 'partial avi' or whatever it's called to allow you to play the file, but those few percent won't necessarily be over the credits at the end of the movie. c
  18. I'd use Reason as your initial palette, so that you gain a good understanding of what different effects do to different things. There will come a point where you'll be able to distinguish exactly how to hype your drums up or whatever, and when you can do that, then go looking for vst effects- for instance, if you need a compressor, go demo as many compressor plugins as you can and find the one you like best. If you do this with all of your fx needs, such as reverb, delay, phasers, eqs etc, but keep yourself to one plugin for each need (maybe two) then you can concentrate on actually mastering each one to make sure you get the best results out of them, rather than just getting scores of plugins and just searching through 20000 presets until you find one that seems to help... to actually answer your qu though, waves, native instruments and antares make my favourite plugins, and www.kvr-vst.com is always up to date on the latest and greatest... hth c
  19. I'd have a bang on Reason and solely Reason for the time being. When you need full vocal tracks (*edit* or indeed any audiotrack recording) it's time to decide Cubase or Live, and it's personal choice for the most part- although Live obviously has the 'live' element built in which makes it cool for playing out. (*edit*- Reason will 'rewire' to either so you actually end up with one huge program in effect) As far as not having the instruments you want, Reason has absolutely everything you need I guarantee it- but the difficult part of production is making the sounds- anyone can arrange stuff ejay style but actual production is dependant on your ability to create. I'd use Reason's own tutorials to get u up to speed on all the crazy stuff it does, then goto www.reasonstation.net and download some songs. The cool thing about downloading Reason songs is that you can actually look at how someone got a sound etc, then emulate it. Only thing is you won't emulate it exactly, you'll put your own little spin on it. And boom- you have your own sound reasonstation helped my learning exponentially. Ripple's "gear won't do shit for ya" is bang on point too- one of Reason's strengths is that it's completely self contained, so rather than going on this grail hunt for 'that sound', you have to figure out how to create it from what you've got- and that whole process trains you to be more creative hope this helps and u don't think I'm just talking shit c
  20. Yeah, that was to the last guy (Sham). It was kinda unnerving because i wanted to just sort of chat with d but kept feeling like I had to be sort of 'presenting' to the crowd as well, if you know what I mean. I also couldn't for the life of me keep track of time so was constantly trying to make sure I wasn't hogging the limelight- else I could have gone on for ages! The crossfader in those Samurai mixers is horrible though! They're so slippy that if you touch em with a feather they pretty much slide to the middle, almost felt like they had a magnet pushing em to the centre... Anyway it was a fantastic experience, D is a very nice chap and it was a pleasure to meet him as well as Sham and Etchasketch the other winners c
  21. Ah hello mate, I saw you briefly at the pedestrian stand and you kindly reassured my my tears weren't that bad if you remember edit: sorry to hear about ur knee!
  22. Twas brilliant. Thx to Gizmo and Skratchworx for the opportunity D-Styles is a very nice fellow and it was great to meet him- although the 07 Samurai we were using had the weirdest crossfader ever with waaay too much drift and made me look even worse than normal (any excuse lol ). Jazzy Jay is a great character, every seminar that had him in it was very entertaining! ...and the gig at Air? Don't even get me started. I almost wet myself- well, maybe I would have were it not for the only bad thing about the entire thing= £3.50 for a bottle of beer?! Pft Oh, and if anyone hears that "Velocity" the new energy drink is being promoted at a town near you, then I would recommend a visit to the nearest stand. It tastes like Red Bull mixed with piss, but the girls they use to push it on you? ...damn... lol c
  23. I forgot some of my favourites- Dirty Diggers! And yeah, Genesis Elijah is heavy. Try n find Lowkey's Sept 30th radio freestyle it's about 10 minutes long! Oh, and Mr Pres and Bradley are coming soon from Thinkfirst Productions c
