I'm not exactly a big software buff, but could it be something to do with an exploit which would allow the software to download in IE which overloads a cache buffer in firefox or something like that? c

Anyone had the incredibly annoying Winfixer popup/popunder? Three 'please click okay to download our shit' prompts and then a redirect to their site. Every time I escape away from them but then afterward the draw rate in firefox and thunderbird drops considerably. Windows (including internet explorer) is still fine, however. The problem seems to cure itself after a few restarts but then comes back if I encounter the winfixer crap again... any ideas? avg finds no virii and adaware no spyware? c

Hey, my 'arrange icons by' settings have changed to audio related stuff (track number, artist, album, title, etc) rather than the usual name date size modified stuff. I've changed it back, but was wondering whether this was a symptom of anything? If anyone knows owt pls let me know c

as soon as i saw the whole boomerang thing blow up across various forums i thought it was a joke to take the piss out of technique nerds. Isn't a chirp motion on the record a baby, and 2 clicks over the top either a one click flare or a chirp, depending on your timiing? The file sounds like a chirp flare variation, a forward back forward chirp into a baby with a click on the back stroke (original flare?) then a pause to start again at the start of the bar (or half or quarter bar if you're doubling or quadrupling the timing). I don't know whether or not this is a joke technique that doesn't exist to get geeks to try and 'get this shit down' or whether it's actually been coined... but surely it's just a combo? Can I give a combo a name to get some notoriety? The way I see it, there are transforms, where you click rhythmically regardless of what you're doing with the record movement, chirps, where you don't hear the back swipe because of clicks, and flares, where you do hear the direction change as well as clicks. Faderless wise, tear baby tear respectively- substitutiing a click for stopping the record. I'm probably wrong, but this is how I see it. The combo I'm practicing I think is a chirp flare but I'm not sure, I haven't got anyone to show me the textbook version (should have asked d-styles probably!) but I keep refining it and it's coming out nice and interesting and sounding more like a more consistent flow like those dudes on the videos I kinda like how I don't exactly know the technical name though, I'm making my own style a little bit more because of it. And the reason I'm doing it is because it's really helping me go from a syncronous to an asyncronous hand movement without pause, so I can do more 2 click flare orbit to 4chirp to 2fwd-1bk flare to 3chirp to 3click flare to double 6 chirp. btw that's the deciscratch /end ramble! c

Very nice nice track selection and some nice blends- I haven't listened to it all the way through yet, I skipped to the blends on some tracks. I'd come away very happy if I'd come to a gig to hear this, never loses momentum... that malif yusef kanye common track is really nice. Only other thing I heard from malik yusef was on Carl Thomas's first album where he does the spoken word track "they can't pronounce malik yusef but they can pronounce us man and wife"... I'm gonna have to peep some more of his stuff definitely because that's a 100% hit rate so far in my books nice work mate! c

You need plugins to get nero to do it... most nero torrents have all the plugins you need for this kind of thing included afaik. hth c

I used to love Azureus, but it runs off java and the only time I ever get problems with my computer it's java .class files, so I don't use it anymore. I'm using BitComet currently, it seems to work a lot better than Azureus on my PC- but when I get kicked or banned from trackers it looks like I'm going to have to switch... so I'll second the 'what now' post... c

I thought fl studio did have aux tracks? For the same reason that most clubs have 1200s, most studios use logic, cubase and pro tools. fl studio has a decent audio engine, vst and dx support, audio track recording, advanced quantising and so on. Personally I don't really like it, I prefer the ui of Reason- but a lot of people will tell you that Reason's not good enough either. In actual fact Reason does a lot less than fl studio, but it's good enough for The Prodigy to make their latest album on. Give a decent drummer a scrap heap and he'll be making drum solos with car tyres and piston rings. Give a shit one a £4000 kit and he'll still only go 'dum, tst, dum dum tst'... I think it's a safe bet that 95% of Cubase users don't even know that half of its features exist, and the 5% that do use less than half anyway. The 'big boys' are the big boys because they will take anything you throw at them, and it would take 10 completely different artists with completely different projects to use all their features. 20 years ago music production software was infinitely less powerful than it is now, but the music was still good. c
