  1. so a .avi file is a divx file? if so, what's the best way to burn it to play on my DVD player. Not sure it plays divx, but i'm pretty sure it does.l
  2. yo dudes just wondering what a good free, or easy to steal program is to convert .avi movies to VCD so i can watch them on my dvd player. Peace out
  3. dj shadow fell the fuck off this year.....
  4. depends what kind of thing you wanna make? how familiar are you with synthesis? are you just going to be mining the presets or are you going to program your own sounds? basslines, leads, pads? I take it you're making basslines since you're interested in the virus. old school novation Bassstation(don't be put off by size) and Supernova's are good pieces of kit. old school and analogue radness. Nord leads do damage. My Novation KS5's presets suck balls, but if you can manage to learn synthesis there's shitloads you can do with it. More info needed though, what do you want it for?
  5. Hardware all the way Sequencer, Drums MPC1000 Synths Novation BassStation Novation KS5 Scratching Pioneers DJM909 Technics 1200 Putting it all together Mackie 1202-VLZ 12 channel mixer Mostly working on a live set at the moment, I love hardware!
  6. i find the MPC heaps better to produce with than anything a computer can offer. MPC's are built for making music, they serve no other purpose, and i think that's why i like them so much. They do everything they should, and nothing they shouldn't. All my production is hardware based, mouses and keyboards do my head in. And the little screen on the MPC is no problem, i find it helpful. This way i don't LOOK at my music, i listen to it instead. I'm rocking a 1000 by the way, coupled with a couple of rad synths. just my two cents
  7. sorry guys, but i saw him a while ago and he's gone a bit loopy i think. if you go and see him, just wait until he gets his eurovision style singer to come out and sing on a couple of tracks. It's rancid. the whole crowds heads tilted in unison to the left, and stayed there for two tracks, and there was a strong smell of WTF coming from everybody's heads. still a better than average show, but not as good as in tune and on time by a LONG SHOT!
  8. well, i thought netik's set was ridiculous good. But then again i've always liked breaks and drum and bass. and i don't have any problems with dj's pressing their own records, makes for a more polished performance, and it adds more to the battle in my opinion. What would be cool in the coming years is a battle where dj's get handed 6 records and some stickers about 24 hours before competititon and see who comes out on top. That would be sweet.
  9. anyone know of any good, preferably free programs to host VST's on? I just want a program that doesn't cause too much trouble on my computer and lets me play all my vst instruments. Any good VST's that people can recommend would be awesome too. peace out
  10. yo, people be stealing my internet!!!! anyone know how i can make it secure? Peace out
  11. hmmm, volume pedal, sounds sweet. would that have two rca's in and two rca's out?
  12. so the setup at the moment is the MPC runs into channel 1, and i do my scratching on channel 2. The problem is that we'd like the sound guy to be able to mix the scratching and the beats independently. We could send the beat directly from the MPC to the sound guy, but the problem there is that in almost every song there is a part where i have to drop the beat out. If i drop it out on the MPC, the drummer loses it in his headphones, and everyone loses the beat. That's why i need it running into a mixer with a volume or crossfader so i can cut it out that way. I remember someone talking about a cheap one channel mixer. Did that ever eventuate? Cheers for the help so far. (oh, and no panning on the pioneer 909, but good idea drakule)
  13. ok, so i'm using my MPC with my band more and more, running programmed beats to the drummer through the headphones, and the MPC plugs into one channel on my mixer, and i'm cutting on the other channel. the problem is we want the sound guy to be able to mix the beats and scratching independently, which means running the MPC into one mixer, and my turntable into another mixer. All i really need is RCA in to the mixer, and RCA (or anything else) out. One channel is all i really need and a volume fader to turn it up and down. which mixer, (or other thing) is the cheapest (or best) alternative?
  14. ok, so my pioneer djm-909 has a fault, just wondering if anyone might have a clue what it is and how it might be fixed. so, nothing is plugged into channel 1, but an audible hiss comes from the mixer. It doesn't matter if the upfader is up or down, or if the crossfader is to the left or to the right, the hiss still comes out. It doesn't matter if channel 1 is set to line/phono, or cd either. How do i know it's channel 1, and not the whole mixer, or the other channel then? The mysterious hiss disappears when i switch channel 1 to mic. The mixer is still usable, the hiss isn't that bad, but it still comes out, and when i play with my band, and i'm not playing anything, the hiss is noticable in a silent room. any ideas? grounding? something wrong with the rca connections at the back? or something else? Thanks for any ideas... peace out
  15. would love to see some pics. I imagine for the 707 and 909 it's kind of hard to make it follow on from the hideous racing stripes...
  16. thanks for the help everyone, recording is going great. Am i missing any of the classic samples? I mean i've put loads of instrument stuff and drums and bass tones and riffs etc, but i'm also leaving myself some room for skipless shit, beep ahh, cut like a guillotine, fresh. What else do i really want? (oh dear, i've really opened myself up here, let the sarcasm fly!!)
  17. anyone ever check these out for the rane 56 or the pioneer 707/909? Custom faceplate 'R' Us(not really their name) I've completely worn all the paint off around the fader of my 909, and i'm thinking that i might pimp it out this way. Any thoughts or experiences?
  18. holy crap man! this shit's insane!! can't wait to hear what makes the 12"
  19. i don't really have much experience in that kind of thing. Is there any websites or info anyone can offer. Like an intro to recording, just so i can make sure i keep things as high quality as possible?
  20. I'm just about to start recording everything i want on a custom record into adobe audition. What sort of things do i have to watch to make sure i get maximum quality? Are there extra settings etc, how loud should i record at, normalizing type stuff, etc etc? I want everything to play back at around the same level, so i don't have to be fucking with levels on stage when i get it. I'm just a little worried everything is going to come out below par and sounding like arse... little help? Peace out
  21. never mind, the bloody camping tickets have sold out!! i still got a weekend ticket though, i just don't have somewhere to stay. DJ shadow will be there, hope his new album isn't as crap as people seem to think it's gonna be...
  22. to computer nerds. you know when you're trying to buy tickets to a big event, and the internet site won't load up because everyone else is trying to get on... is there a way to make my chances a little better, like optimise my refresh time or something? www.splendourinthegrass.com i need those tickets!
  23. woah, that just went way over my head!! i barely even know what the kind of computer i have here! am i a lost cause?
  24. cheers for that mate. I kind of want to slow down the fan a bit, cut down on some noise. but i don't want to blow anything up.
