  1. Yes, turning off/on stresses components a lot. Each turn decreases the life by a minimum of 30mins, possibly up to 2hrs of continous usage. Same goes for 'power-save mode' on monitors. Also, turning on requires the charging of several large capacitors,a nd so consumes as much power as migh be required to run the PC for a good hour. In a way similar to flurecent lightbulbs, it is only worth turning a PC off if it will be off for a couple of hours at least. Classically, my PC has been always on. The last few months it has been rarely on, been too busy. I post from a PC that does no belong to me.
  2. If you're on a budget, a Euro and an Maudio 2496 is the way to go, totally eliminates the ned for a HD recorder
  3. Chun has a Behringer Euro and it is actually really nice. Don't judge them on the quality of their DJ mixers! Anyway, he went for the 8-channel version, it was DOA so Behringer sent him the 12 or 16 channel version, I forget exactly, it is big anyhow.

    Lava Lamp?

I want it, the 'net needs some new 0WN3D clipart
  5. Different techniques of working will bring forth different styles. Having an all scratched track will certainly bring forth a certain style in a very strong way, which does make it somewhat unique.
  6. There are some good greatest hits albums. I'd say that Bob Marley, The Police and Madness all have greatest hits albums that are actually much better or the everyday listen than any of their albums are. The Beatles and Jacko have both recently release "#1's" collections, which again are very listenable and in fact provide a brilliant fresh take on their work.

    Lava Lamp?

Yeah, open the lamp. It's about time we trimmed the herd a little. It's natural selection in action. In fact, hold the red hot lamp over your nads while you do it, just to make sure that if you are notkilled, then at least the scalding hot wax will neuter you.
  8. That's a fairly normal characteristic of Shures mate. They wear in and become fairly deck-specific. Shures are also damn fragile (as Gav found out last month, ha ha ha), so take care of 'em. I'd just like to say that I've been riding on the same ort dj-s for three years. I'll probabbly pick up some whitelabels eventually, but DAMN are the orts ever under-rated.

    Compatibility

You should be fine. Bfunk moves his tracks from mac to pc all the time. Compatiability has been much less of an issue over the last few years, thanks to the Joliet CD file system. Thank fuck. But yeah, if ever in doubt use the ethos "make the mac think like a PC", because the reverse is always ten times more awkward.

    Lava Lamp?

FLOL @ all of this It's just wax 'n' water. The air provides a compression area for the expansion to move into without breaking the glass. DON'T OPEN THE FUCKING LAMP, numbnuts.
  11. If you're in the UK, hit me by PM and I'll see if I can sort you out for it via good 'ol Royal Mail

    downloading

    Try Download Accellerator Plus?
  14. Honestly mate, get the adapator. Best advice I can give really. Dc adators are ten-a-penny, AC are more tricky to come by. I can't really recommend a retailer in your region since you're in Slovakia. Get the original power-pack. At least then if it fucks up you can whine to Stanton.

    Lava Lamp?

You need air in there. If there wasn't any, it would explode. Gas compresses: solids and liquids do not -or at least, not enough to compensate for expansion. Student tip: a bedroom lava lamp doubles as a dope hot-water bottle.

    NEW PS2!

Reckon it's so small because they finally got round to passively cooling it
  17. Scrap my previous response..... and the board, too. Would you perform CPR on a leper? I know I wouldn't, LOL You're going to have a VERY hard time finding bios flash data etc. for that board. If you're not convinced, search "jetway 663 aspro" in Google. (It's my girst googleblatspot or whatever they're called) Why not negotiate a possible upgrade with your mate. Hardware is damn cheap at the mo. If he/she is tight, hit eBay for older ASUS/EPOX/ABIT models (steer clear of older MSI/Gigabyte etc. as they may be reputable now, but a couple of years ago they were SHITE).
  18. Say that to BargainFunk and you're going to get a big glasgae fist round yer chops and a broken irn-bru bottle to the throat
  19. That's pretty much exactly what I put into Fred's new PC for his Protools setup and it seems to run rock-stable. He wanted something cost-effective but ample, I reckon he'll be very pleased when he gets it all running tonight
  20. Seagate 120GB Barracuda's are about £40 now. I bought two for Fred's new PC. What's your excuse?!?!?

    NEW PS2!

Might be perfect for car installs?
  22. Pretty much, they're very clever, People have even sandwiched fully integrated watercooling systems into them!
  23. flash that mofo what board?
  24. Fruityloops is franky AMAZING, simply because it is the only audio platform out there that takes a fresh approch and lays everything bare, whilst still running with minimal hardware requirements. If you have an old PII 450 with a SBPCI, it'll run Fruity. No shit. Fruityloops is never going to earn you any audio kudos from those who consider themselves the audio "hardcore". I'd say this is somewhat unfair, given that the validity of the package has clearly been proven by some of the amazing results out there. In truth, I think that many people find the way of working to be slightly too alternative to the norm -not bad, just different. In fact, I know a few people studying audio at uni, Fruity is the only package to be banned from use on their course since the methods employed are not considered to the standard transferrable skills. I honestly think that is a bit bollocks, but whatever. Just use whatever you're happy with
  25. BTW: For Fruity users, the Fruity Slicer is fundamentally the same thing
