  1. thanks so much for all the replies! will let you know which interface I end up purchasing
  2. Hey DV, Had a convo with a friend of mine who has been telling me to get an 8 channel soundcard/interface for a while now. He recommended the Focusrite series. Looking to be able to track out kick, snare, hi hat, sample, separately, hopefully recording audio with track mutes on the 1k. Just looking for any recommends, for something budget that works. Any help is much appreciated!
  3. damn dude, wish I could scratch. cool to hear about your process too. whole project is dope, I dig the basement vibe on track 5, melodic jazz vibe on track 6, dystopian vibes on track 7, in particular thought track 10 was a great outro as well
  4. Hey what's up Digital Vertigo? Hope I'm not overstaying my welcome here with another post, but just wanted to make sure people hear these. First one is a tribute to the SP1200, I don't own one but I think its the coolest drum machine. Limited myself to 10 seconds sampling time in the 1k, and used the usual sp tricks like speeding up the turntable and pitching down in the machine. Very thankful for the Lo Fi processor in the 505. Was fun to work under these constraints. Second one is just an ELO sample. I heard a few other people loop this part too, but I think it turned out decent.
  5. Damn, thanks! Glad you noticed. Yeah wanted to go for a kind of dystopian vibe on t-800
  6. For sure, I know what you mean. Maybe I'll dig around for an a capella. Thanks man, I put a lot of work into my drums! Thanks! I'm doing decent, I got a stash of records from the only record store that's still open in my area, so using the lockdown time to work on creative endeavours. Would like to thank you guys for the kind words, this was the only forum that understood the vibes I'm going for here
  7. What's up DV? Just wanted to share these tracks with you. They're actually from a 2014 tape I made that no longer has enough tracks I like to want to upload it all online. But there's a few jams in there that still sound good so I'm posting them. MPC 1000 and SP 505 as usual. Hope you enjoy hearing these! A tribute to Terminator: https://soundcloud.com/okjoy/t-800-relentless Some Neo Soul:
  8. Thanks for the recommend! I found a few more sites like this one in my search too, play.fm and hearthis.at
  9. People, just wondering what the best option is to let people stream a DJ mix online, now that Mixcloud is charging and limiting free plays? YouTube completely blocked my mix because of copyright. I was thinking Soundcloud but I wanted to save that for production. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  10. Dope dude! brought a nice variety of different vibes on these
  11. Yeah man I want to get into making those triplet note repeat hi hats, but haven't figured out how to do that on the mp. So all the hi hats you hear are entered in without quantize. Glad to hear you dig them though. I actually really like the sound of the breaks on those scratch records too so I'm glad you said that
  12. Thank you so much to everyone who replied this topic, I bought new control vinyl and ortofon needles. So I couldn't get the ortofon's to work, but the great news is that the 3rd party m44-7 needles I bought on Ebay work on the new control vinyl! So I'm going to return the ortofon's tomorrow. dude I'm impressed you know who Flattop is. I went to LA in 2006 hoping to see him live at universal studios. Unfortunately we went to the main office and they said he didn't show up to work! Damn, our response was "can we at least see what his signature looks like?" Looks like you were right dude, lesson learned, my control records needed replacing thats awesome to know, thanks for sharing that knowledge!
  13. https://youtu.be/S2WO9RTFjlE I'm on SL1, Serato 2.5.0. So at first I thought this was due to bass resonance from having my decks too close to the speakers at a gig. But I brought them home and this problem still crops up. Sometimes I see that dust builds up and after I clear the dust from the needle it plays arlight. Check out the vid so you know what it sounds like. I bought 3rd party m44-7 needles from Ebay and they have this same distortion the whole entire time, the worn out shure ones I'm using sound better. I got a 2 day gig coming up on Saturday and Sunday, I would hate to have to be in INT mode the whole time I'm gonna be buying new control vinyl and needles tomorrow to see if that fixes this. I haven't been DJing gigs that long, really more of a producer. if anyone got any advice it would be much appreciated!
  14. What's up Digital Vertigo. I haven't posted anything for a while so just thought I'd share these tracks with you. Both sampled and unquantized. Sequenced on the MPC 1000 with effects from the SP 505.
  15. Hey there Digital Vertigo. Looking for cool lighting gadgets to help inspire a mood while making beats. I just bought a spinning LED bulb kinda like this one it's not bad but I wish you could change up the colours. Anyway, lemme know you have any recommends. just stuff similar to lava lamps or interesting lighting gadgets
  16. Hey Kaytoo, thanks for saying that! Well the process is different every time. For Got it I had the drums ready before and just sampled into the mp and chopped it to hell. Played a bassline in tune with the sample and that was it. For something like Patterns, I really liked the rhythm of the sample, so after hearing it I made a drum pattern that matched it. After playing the sample on top, once again played the bassline and it was done.
  17. the drums are sounding proper, especially the hi hats so nice work on that I think a well tuned 808 would sound dope on this
  18. Thanks Max! yeah I figured people would like that track so I put it right at the beginning
  19. Damn thank you for listening and for the awesome comment!
  20. Here it is people, Typewriter Beats, for free download. The concept is just the drum machine as a typewriter, typing up sampled messages and sending them off into the world. This time around Hashbrown and I collaborated on the album art, but the bird pic was still taken by my Dad as usual. Sampled from #Jazz, #Soul and #Rock records. With every tape I try to include a lot of different vibes so hopefully you'll hear something you like. Created on the MPC 1000 and SP 505. https://okjoy.bandcamp.com/album/typewriter-beats 1. Check it Out 2. Got it 3. City Folk 4. In the House 5. From the Shadows 6. BBQ 7. Calzone 8. Spirits of the Forest 9. Patterns 10. Intrigue 11. Matcha 12. Red Alert 13. On the Griddle 14. Ultra Violins 15. Peace
  21. Thank you Steve! I try and make my music sound as good as possible right out the sampler, I don't use any software to produce. When you say thin, do you mean the low end? Thanks Broma! Hopefully you guys will like this next one too. I live in a neighbourhood about 45 minutes from Vancouver. We call it the forest because there's a lot of parks and trees out here.
  22. very dope stuff dude! enjoyed hearing all these. dig how versatile your style is
