  1. D-Styles, Fakser, Chile and IQ come to mind. Regarding the drumming analogy: it's not just that the movements become smaller and stick heights decrease, but different parts are used to drive the stick (fingers, wrist, arm) - I guess some of that translates to scratching. The DJs listed above can get a nice sharp sound by flexing their fingers and relying less on wrist and arm movements. That should be valuable tool to get different sounds at different tempos.
  2. I mostly use Steam, but the store has become a bit ridiculous. It's filled with a bunch of crappy DLCs and terrible games like this one: https://www.gog.com/ GOG / Good Old Games is exactly what the name suggests plus a bunch of new quality games. It feels a lot cleaner / curated and they have a software just like Steam, too. You don't need an internet connection, though. There are many excellent games that you can't find on Steam (e.g. Blade Runner, Dungeon Keeper), so have a look if you're into good PC games!
  3. Some of my favorite PC games over the last two years: Frostpunk, Aground, Stronghold HD - not sure when I played what exactly and some are a bit older, but I didn't buy them right away.
  4. Ah, good to know - is there an easy way to delete old files or do I have to browse through all of my posts until I find those with images?
  5. How come the maximum file size is 3.11 kB? THAT'S NOTHING!!!
  6. Meh, the real Matrix* has much better graphics.. 😑 ----------------------------------------------------------- *what you plebs call "reality"
  7. Loading takes quite a lot of time, but I've had problems since the update. At first, I wasn't able to post at all on some browsers. It went to having to wait about 20 seconds until a post manifests. That might be a non-related problem, though.
  8. Users already circumvent it: "use this comment as a dislike button" (826 likes)
  9. Good to know! I was mainly making fun without knowing a whole lot about it (as usual.. 😪) - well, I don't make beats and wouldn't buy it anyway, but I'm looking forward to any audio pHYLe$ you might post in the future.
  10. Well, at least you can you use memory cards. Imagine a 4 GB memory card vs. the 12 second sampling time of the past - that's only $1 per Megabyte! Pete Rock would have killed for that. But wait, there's more: if you get a 64 GB memory card, that machine is an even bigger bargain. BUY! IT! NOW! :P
  11. Probably too obvious, but just in case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHhD4PD75zY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCBN7lyLT4w
  12. Acid Jazz and Ninja Tune in general. Not sure where you stand on stuff like The Avalanches and later Coup 2 Cross stuff - those had some mass appeal. Zig-A-Zig-Ahhhh
  13. Yeah, who knows - thanks for sharing that story, by the way! I believe that A-Trak also played piano for a couple of years which is a massive head start (assuming you didn't play another instrument, too). The piano helps to build fine motor skills, thinking in phrases, developing rhythmic accuracy... Then the whole process of how to practice is completely different if you take classical lessons (slow, metronome, always working on details). Compare that to how most DJs I know learned at first (me included): trying to mimic all the crazy things on videos at full speed without any idea about music theory and realizing the advantages of really slowing down, observing and improving your scratching.
  14. A Pioneer S9 will do the same thing. Just turning this thing on feels like looking into the sun or walking into a casino on psychedelics.
  15. The secret to success? Being too dumb to quit. More important than talent is motivation, enough spare time, tenacity and humbleness. Constantly looking for things to improve and taking the time to work on it versus just drilling away mindlessly. These traits are most important to me - even talented DJs had to work hard to develop their skills. Innate ability is hard to determine - how much has been learned at a young age (being surrounded by musicians, dancing, singing...)? Are there other hobbies (like building ships in a bottle) that have led to fine motor skills and such things? In the end, you are who you are, so if you want to do something, just do it. Pondering about how much talent you have and if somebody learns faster doesn't help a whole lot.
  16. Who said I do!? Did you have a bottle of this shit for breakfast? I love that track, but if that counts, then I'll raise you this one! 😛

  18. I don't recall the details, but it has been reported years ago that Afrika Bambaataa is a child molester. I remember an old thread here where I stated how ironic it is that this happened within the Zulu Nation of all places. [Browsing those old threads, I might have that wrong - I probably just thought it..] So what are the new accusations? The only new (to me) details are that aliens are involved. A good lawyer might use that to declare him insane, so he gets a lesser punishment. Given the severity, that might or might not help.
  19. I only use a few Firefox extensions: AdBlocker Ultimate Don't Track Me Google Facebook Container NoScript Opt-out for Analytics Very satisfied mostly. Then again, I have problems posting on DV and I suspect it's one of the extensions. 🙃
  20. I found this on Reddit: a list of most "Super OEM" turntables. Keep looking and one will show up eventually. American Audio HTD 4.5, Audio Technica LP1240, Reloop 7000 and 7000mk2, Reloop 8000 and 8000mk2, Stanton ST150 and ST150mk2 and straight tonearm version of this. Pioneer PLX1000, Mixars LTA and straight tonearm version of this. There's also Reloop 5000/6000 and Citronic PD45, Omnitronic DD5250 (and Synq X-TRM 1) The Rane 56 is still a nice mixer, so if you just want to load a few samples, I'd hold on to it for now. I'd stay away from the old Serato boxes that are no longer supported. But maybe if you find one for very cheap and check before if it runs on your computer / OS, you might grab one of those, too.
  21. I was in the same situation a few years ago. Getting a second hand PDX online seemed a bit risky to me, because I know quite a few that developed issues. I ended up getting the Reloop 6000 for about 200€ each (including cartridges). I never felt that it was inferior to the PDX and there are some things I actually like more (cleaner looks, pitch settings). Look around to find all the Hanpin Super-OEMS: the Reloop is only one of many. On top of my head: Synq, Omnitronic, Stanton 150 - I believe there are a bunch more that are all the same thing. Regarding Serato: Which mixer do you use now / are you satisfied? Either getting a dedicated Serato box or a different mixer could be an option.
  22. Just got Unavowed today on Steam for 40% off. I won't watch the review to avoid spoilers, but so far I like it a lot. Great atmosphere and logical puzzles. Give it a shot if you're into oldschool Point & Click adventures: “Unavowed is unquestionably one of the most impressive point and click adventures made in many, many years. It’s of a scale I wasn’t at all expecting, with layer upon layer of complexity and variety in a way the genre has genuinely never seen before.” Rock Paper Shotgun “Unavowed is much more than it appears: it's a brilliantly written adventure that makes you care deeply about its inhabitants and subverts your expectations.” Gamespot
  23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnOk_MdAj2s 37 copies sold in 20 years (guesstimate). The Ruck was, is and will be pissed... Still one of my favorite albums.
