  1. I'm more excited by this announcenemt, to be honest: Having played the excellent Half Life remake "Black Mesa" recently, I'm left puzzled how a game designed in 1998 still beats the experience of nowadays AAA titles. Games used to be surprising and challenging. Now, all those open world games just tell you to move to location XY on the map, start the quest and if you fail a checkpoint five times, you can just skip it (looking at you Red Dead Redemption and to a lesser extent games like Fallout, Skyrim or Witcher 3). Where's the accomplishment in following basic instructions (come here, grab this, take it there, shoot 3 enemies or skip it if you're too dumb for that)? /oldmanrant
  2. You could have just told me that you don't like my guitar playing. Instead, I had to find it out like this... 🀬 (cunt)
  3. Just pulled the trigger on Steam and got Red Dead Redemption 2 while it's on sale. Factoring in my internet connection, it should only take three months to download those meager 120 GB. Pretty sure that Windows updates and other file clutter will show up once it's installed, so no more disk space for savegames. Oh well, perma death mode it is...
  4. This is the only game I play right now: Is anybody playing Baldur's Gate 3 by the way? Based on the raving reviews, you probably won't visit DV (or do boring adult stuff like laundry and cooking) if you actually play it.
  5. Summer sale at GOG with tons of games on offer: https://www.gog.com/de/promo/2023_summer_sale
  6. Orbits and, more importantly, making Pastrami sandwiches for the Skratch Piklz while on tour.
  7. Completely forgot about having an account, so no updates for 7 years. πŸ˜„
  8. (This tune was actually written by DJ Disk for the Prince of Denmark in 1638 - credit where credit is due)
  9. Thanks everyone - I forgot about the TRX and will keep looking. There's a shoddy DIF-1S which looks OK if I can find a good one. I like the 707's quality and fader but I'd prefer to get something smaller, something about the size of a Pioneer 250 maybe. I'd mostly use it for some rare sessions, mostly dropping samples and scratching just a little bit. ( #FellOff )
  10. I currently don't have a mixer and don't look to get too serious about scratching again, but if there's a decent option at about 100 bucks used, I might change that. Looking for: At least decent crossfader and not terrible sound quality. A few simple effects. Small. I know the old stuff like UMX and Stantons, but I'm not familiar with the new Mixar and DJ-Tech stuff and since there may be more OK-ish models, I thought I'd ask if there are any recommendations.
  11. Do you recommend any VPN extensions in 2022? Lots of them want you to pay and I don't know which ones are trustworthy. I guess I'd also pay a small monthly fee if it's more secure.
  12. Me in every DV scratch battle I've participated in. 😑
  13. Have you seen Public Enemy? Terminator X's last name is "X", right? And I'm sure that you're hiding your attendance to several Suzi Quatro concerts from us.
  14. Remembering is hard. This is my list, for now: Afrika Bambaataa James Brown DJ Craze D-Styles El Da Sensei Bobby McFerrin Guru Herbie Hancock Ill Bill Jaga Jazzist K Joe Lovano Melo-D Noisy Stylus Oregon Pharoahe Monch Q-Bert Joshua Redman Snarky Puppy The Heavy (file under H?) Ugly Duckling DJ Vadim Wordsworth X Y Z
  15. That's him??? Never realized that. Thanks for ruining one of my favorite albums! πŸ˜›
  16. Stupid Pete Rock and his lousy adlibs:
  17. Latest addition and it might become one of my favorites: Citadels. Nice mix of complexity / strategy and bluffing. Not too long and pretty varied due to the many characters that change each time you play it. I expect high replayability. Very little downtime, so nobody gets bored. I also just ordered Marco Polo 2 after some hesitation. In general, I like that publisher (Hans im GlΓΌck) a lot because they actually think about the mechanics before releasing a game and they always have good manuals. Let's see. Any new games you've been playing?
  18. Oh yeah, that one was just on point - pretty sure I haven't watched any battle routine as often as that one. That set was really refined and cleanly executed and in a way that might be the problem in a battle. It's so musical and chill, that you can just sit back and listen. Craze had lots of crazy and funny parts. He really managed to get everybody's attention. Of course, both routines were great.
  19. I've been to lots of record stores on the Eastside and some in Canada in 2004 and I believe that there were some plastic ones (TSL and Honda's store in NY, I think), but it might be more of a Euro thing. One of my favorite stores just gave you random plastic bags from other stores that he got from god knows where. That was also the store where you could walk right into the owner's bedroom if you took the wrong turn. It was a bit of a mess. πŸ˜„
  20. I hope that they manage Blizzard better than Activision did - how much worse could it become? Oh right, they could only care about the main titles and kill all series that threaten their own ones. Meh, let's see.
  21. I really like Swiss Balls (Oh Hi @arkei πŸ˜„ ) because they prevent staying in the same position all the time and your core muscles don't degenerate as much. Also, they're dirt cheap. Do you play a full keyboard or a small synth / Midi keyboard? Arm rests might be a problem.
  22. Yeah, it's pretty awkward at first. I guess that the "Bumpy Knuckles" Tear technique where you hit your thumb against the center of your index and middle fingers is somewhat linked to Push-Pull on drums - splitting up the load between two different driving motors. I didn't venture too deeply into it, but saw some benefits from working the three different joints / knuckles / whatever you call them in English... πŸ˜„ Resting your fingertips on the record and bringing the hand down flat translates into a forward motion and seems to make the other knuckles more responsive. I used to have more of a stiff death grip before trying that stuff. Even if you don't really use them to move the record, smoother hands shouldn't hurt. Maybe look for warm up exercises by Conga players - they often have incredibly flexible and smooth hands.
