  1. Ah right, this might be one of the reasons it seemed impossible.. I'm trying it on Serato on 33 rpm. I did see that he was using a loop but I thought it was only right at the very end of the routine.. I did try it once on the original vinyl records, but seem to remember finding it really hard, as I've always found juggling on 45 rpm difficult.
  2. My fingers always seem slightly more moist in summer (cause of the heat I guess, obvs) A nice result of this is I can pull off hydroplanes first go! Whereas if I try them in winter often they don't work cause hands are too dry.
  3. Hey I haven't done any beat juggling for ages so i thought I'd start again with something easy, (jk) Craze's DnB routine from DMC 2000. Surprisingly, turns out it's out a total headfuck. I can do the first bit but I just get lost after that. It doesn't help that the video is one of those where the cameraman is all over the place, trying to be all arty and shit, rather than just giving a steady clear shot of the turntables. Has anyone attempted to re-create this beat juggle before? He's using Ed Rush & Optical 'Watermelon'. https://youtu.be/bVx7VoCa2AA?t=118
  4. Yeah I want to go, I live not far from the venue. Where did you see tickets for a 10er, medinah? All the sites I'm seeing are 18-20 quid. ..
  5. slanderous to the very max. someone best go get themselves a lawyer.....who knows...it might even have to both of them lol In the UK, written defamation of character is called libel, whereas if it's spoken it's called slander. So this would be a libel case if it was in the UK. I'm not sure if they are called the same things in US law.
  6. The drug shit is a non issue as far as I and probably 90% of people are concerned. As for the Glitter stuff, yeah he'll possibly face a lawsuit, but if he's going crazy as he is about money and stuff I guess he doesn't have much to be sued for, plus if thudrumble tried to sue him surely it would just add more cement to their reputation as being money orientated etc.. but either way Q can't just leave those terrible charcater accusations in the air?
  7. Okay some people may be sick of the saga by now but.. I saw in my FB newsfeed that Flare has added a whole load more of extremely damning accusations about QBert.. not just about his business/trading methods but real terrible stuff about his character. I wouldn't be surprised if this results in legal action against someone. I don't even want to repeat the content, but if anyone knows what I'm on about I would like to hear your thoughts. It's all a bit disheartening. :/
  8. You wouldn't be if you knew how much I've had to shell out for it haha...! Hopefully I'll break even.. I'm gonna try to blag him to let me do a live Q & A with him at the end of his set, or at least during soundcheck. I'll tell you about his backstage rider requests etc when I see you next... kinda funny
  9. Yes Jimmy there are lifeforms outside of Limehouse, or so I've heard
  10. Jiehhaa... Hench In The Game.. @ Sound Control, 1 New Wakefield Street Manchester event page http://www.facebook.com/events/284567344989461/
  11. Yeah I might go... only cos it's 3 mins from where I live though.. ..but I'm only up for it if I get to see a load of geezers wearing nu era hats posturing, crossing their arms and doing the occasional Euro style juggle with noises I don't like in front of a laptop stand n loads of equipment I don't understand - that ok? only jokin I love it aAH fresh etc
  12. It's an interesting point though, look how many regional heats there were. How many are there now? 4 or something, and that online thingy. This is DMC in the digitally revolutionised credit crunched UK yo...
  13. DJ Flare of course! But that'll never happen.
  14. This is just about being to do stabs efficiently, no? Stabs are an overlooked but really important thing to practice... I learned to do em fast by copying the Piklz' famous stab routine at the end of their ITF team entry vs. the X-men, aka the 'Piklz vs klamz of death'.. have a go, it may help.. you can hear it @ 12.50 mins here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjJ4-GIWBDk
  15. I reckon tablists have a better life expectancy than drummers anyway so I'm gonna avoid the sticks and stick with the fader.
  16. Hey I'm wondering if anyone knows of any way to link a QFO (original) to DVS without opening it up and soldering an extra phono out - is there any other way round this? The only thing I could find online was a post in skratchlounge from years ago by DJ Claim who said he had something called 'Needleout' which involved linking the software directly to the cart, but I couldn't find anything about it on the link he posted. The QFO only has master out and two lines in. Any ideas...?
  17. Sorry but that's a straight up non sequitur for me. Of course a scratch drummer can't do what Neil Peart is doing - because he's using a drum kit! - and Neil Peart can't do reverse drumming because he's not using a turntable. That was my point, that these things are different instruments/artforms and hence it makes no more sense to make a 'better than/worse than' comparison any more than it would be to say that a drum kit is primitive as fuck compared to a drum machine, or perhaps "the goal of both books and movies is to tell a story, but books are just primitive in comparison." I try to appreciate all artforms within context, whether that be book writing, movie making, drum bashing, needle thrashing, whatever... it just seems unduly negative to me to say that one is shitter than the other. I played a 2 hour set a club last week and was the only DJ cutting up, juggling, drum scratchin etc.. lots of people approached me afterwards to say that it really made a difference to their experience of the night to see someone doing isomething nteresting rather than just jockeying discs. "Oh well, back to the usual stuff" is what one girl said when the next DJ came on after me. which made my night. ..But now I've re-read this thread and pondered on it all a while, I think you may be right - scratching is a complete waste of time; I'm shit at it anyway and no-one really cares.... NOT REALLY I LOVE IT + I AM TEH BEST!! AHHH FRESHH 4 EVA n that Peace
  18. I disagree with this too. While they are completely different instruments, the goal is essentially the same and scratch drumming is incredibly limited in scope compared to real drumming. Ok then assuming the goal is the same - (although it's not) - then would you agree that when it comes to reverse drumming, a real drummer finds himself not so much limited in scope, but just completely fucked? Haha
  19. ^^I didn't know that was a Robert Capa photo... he was killed by a landmine in Indochina later in the 50s wasn't he? .. His blurry Omaha beach photos are amazing too. This photo was taken later in the Normandy campaign though, somewhere near the Cherbourg peninsula I think, the P.O.W. is an officer of 17th SS PanzerGrenadiers. God knows how I remember this kind of shit.. probably from reading so many books as a kid in the pre-internet (stone age) era haha.. what was your dissertation on, doppel?
  20. I don't think it's true that tablists are not respected by other musicians.. in recent years I have seen more interesting things like scratchers working with other musicians than ever before. Switch was playing with a whole orchestra on the BBC proms last year wasn't he? I reckon most regular mix DJs would love to be able to flex some proper skills, even if they don't admit it. I don't agree that scratch drumming is a pale imitation of 'real drumming' at all - they're completely different instruments and hence not comparable in a 'better than' way, just as a guitar is not 'shitter than' a violin in any way... I'd agree that most people don't really understand tablism though... but I wouldn't expect them to, because unless you're acquainted with how sounds are mapped on a record and how they can be manipulated it won't make much sense. Having said that I know loads of people who are well into C2C, nam nam, Perverts etc. but have never touched a turntable in their life. One thing I do think is now a problem is that with the introduction of DVS, the artform *may* become even more distant from the understanding of the general public, which is a shame.
  21. What is this 'euro style' you are speaking of? video link/example... anyone... please?
