seen this a lot, in my experience it is either the optical drive, RAM, or hard drive at fault. often it's the memory, would explain some of the errors in vista too. http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.5.iso.zip download, unzip then extract to a cd, it's a iso image so use nero or similar to open and burn it. then boot from it and let it test.
