Do you just straight master to them for tunes or are you 2/4 tracking them in mixes record to tape etc.. What do I need to look out for with them? Are you using foot triggers? Anyone taken a tape master to a vinyl cutter? Thanking you in advance for your experience and knowledge. Peace
  6. There is alot of satire in his music as well as a technical and experimental virtuosity. I suggest We're Only In It For the Money as you if you have a broad pallette you may get the references and parodies. Hot Rats has been sampled the most but Apostrophe is worth checking too. Also check out the youtube stuff theres some amazing shit from the early 60s when he was doing avante gard stuff, theres a clip where hes on some talk show playing a bicycle to everybody's derision. check out Cap Beefheart too, the Magic Band still tour if you ever get the chance. Peaaayce

  13. thouht this may be of some help; http://www.artscouncil.org.uk/subjects/homepage.php?sid=12 How does CMN work? How does CMN work? CMN is constantly on the lookout for exceptional concepts in contemporary music which have the potential to be developed into a CMN supported tour. CMN is a fantastic resource and works to realise the most creative ideas. The strong relationships we have built with a diverse range of venues and promoters across the country constitute a vital part of CMN’s network. We are always keen to expand our network and develop new relationships, as our portfolio of projects grows ever more varied and adventurous. CMN is able to subsidise the cost of a tour in the UK provide marketing and venue support for the tour supply print and design for the tour secure national and local press and pr all with the aim of enhancing – not replacing – the work that venues, promoters and individuals might themselves bring to a touring project. CMN welcomes proposals from all parts of the creative community – both nationally and internationally. We welcome dialogue with Artists Producers Promoters Arts and Cultural Organisations Agents How does CMN decide what to present in its season? When considering projects, CMN makes an artistic judgement about a proposal or idea, considers the proposal’s audience, marketing and press potential and asks the question “Will the sound and /or concept of this project be new and refreshing or will it, despite being new, simply replicate a traditional or well tried approach and sound?†CMN constructs a series of tours which together make up an interesting and coherent season also develops and presents its own projects or works in partnership with others to develop and present a project CMN is a programming organisation, so whilst a proposal might fit all CMN’s drivers it may not, ultimately, be presented by CMN.

  16. I dont know if theyre hip hop dates or tablist dates , maybe some of these bumpkin promoters can tell the fucking difference when they book an artist to play it. i'd love to see lally live but then if hes on his jacks he might just do the pedestrian dmc/dj stuff either way it'll be good. 17. Any cats going to any dates? Anyone know if he's hitting london?
  18. yeh i agree. I'm self taught and i teach djing and skratching. I find that what i'm being paid for is to show some one a short cut. And i make a point of saying your not going to pick this up over night but what i can do is teach you and show you methods first hand to improve your skills and ways to widen your mixing/skratching vocabulary. and if they retain that shit, coo. i first of all try to find a students motivation for being a "dj" and hone the course in on answering those things. i dont make qualms about taking peeps money schooling them on shit they could possibly glean from vids, net, etc.... Mostly i just try to destroy preconceptions and prejudices about genres, even when i'm teaching a bod to beat match house, i will always impress on them the need to learn hip hop mixing skills, hip hop i stress is a backbone to whatever dance genre they mix. even when i'm teaching hip hop mixing, i try to use original breaks rather than hip hop rekahs. I do feel lame though because there is so much to impart and the course i've done have been short and syllabased by someone else so i end up trying to just concentrate on a few things and show them first hand what they could use if they get their game on. I also put them onto websites like these. I get a lot of joy out this shit and i recommend any half decent djs and Dmc cats out there to advertise and take on a young padwon for cash and joy. the reason i post this here more than any where else is because cats getting into djing need to be shown the right shit not some DJ mag closetted crass fadist shite. I got mad haps when some girl came down from Luton to learn techno cdjing and left the course making friends with some croydon rude girl both getting into and totally feeling silver age hip hop. The power of Main Source, Tribe and EPMD! They had never heard that shit before and were totaly feeling it. Any hoo, peace to all cats and let your light show the way before you and them.
  19. i'm sure its on a simon harris but cant recall which one at the mo.
  20. I categorise but then i'll have worked out sets so i'll keep a whole buch of random records together for sets. i put stuff in dance categories then i'll put sll the sample/break stuff in instrument categories like trumpet/violin/drum etc.... then accapellas spoken word together and all the childrens stuff together, soundtrack , indy rock, country etcc... . i've got themed sets too so all the horror/paranoic hip hop goes together space hip hop etc.. bY the end of it my records look completely random and the only way to make sense of it all is to actually be in my head!
