ENCODING MPC FILES - BETTER THAN MP3!

Hopefully people will start using this. This small rar file contains everything you need to encode files. Download it and unzip it to your Program Files directory. Create a shortcut to the MPC Batch Encoder.exe file and use that to run the program. It's really simple to use, but if you've got any questions, ask them in this thread.

MPC files are far better quality than mp3 at a lower bitrate/file size and are also naturally gapless so if you rip a mix CD to wavs and then encode them as MPC files you don't have problems with gaps/clicks in between each track.

To play the files, you can use foobar2000. If you use Winamp or certain other players as I do, you can get plugins here: -

On that site you will also find versions for OSX and Linux. If you need a plugin for Nero so you can burn audio CDs, get it here (from the menu on the left): -

Good post. Funnily enough I wiped out my old Musepack thread from the old DV board yesterday, it got no replies and barely any views. I was gonna transfer it over here but I thought I'd be wasting my time. People should take note though, because it's an awesome format. If you were to ask anyone on HydrogenAudio forums what the best lossy encoder is they'd tell you it's Musepack. Their opinions can definately be trusted too.

The only drawback is the lack of support. If you want portable audio, forget it. Musepack is great for PC listening only, as I understand there is literally one portable player that supports this format, and that's made by some obscure japanese company.

Here's my old (sept 2003) HydrogenAudio thread on the most popular encoder / format:

Musepack was the clear winner.

BTW, one thing I forgot to mention is that Cool Edit Pro / Audition can read .mpc files with a little plugin.

See attachment. Unzip this and place it in your Cool Edit / Audition installation folder.
