How to upgrade to Windows 11 on an unsupported PC (no third party software required)

NOTE - While this allows you to upgrade an unsupported PC to Windows 11, there's no guarantee that a future update to the OS won't cause you issues, or even render your Windows 11 install unusable, so do this at your own risk. You should already have your data backed up, but if not, it's always advisable to do a backup before doing something like this.

1. Download a Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft's website, HERE. You must make sure that the language you select matches the language of your current Windows 10 install.

2. Create a folder called "win11" (without quotes) at the root of your C drive.

3. Right-click the Windows 11 ISO that you downloaded and choose "Mount". This will mount the ISO in Windows. Browse to the newly mounted drive and copy the entire contents to your win11 folder.

4. Run Command Prompt as admin. Type "c:\win11\setup.exe /product server" (without quotes) and hit enter.

This will start the upgrade process. It will say that it's installing Windows Server, but it's not; it's installing Windows 11. You will have the option of keeping your existing files and installed programs.

Once it's done, you can delete the win11 folder you created in step 2.
