Steve
I'm assuming it was the same everywhere, but here in the UK, back when buying vinyl was much more popular, record shops often had their own record bag designs. I remember the bags being a little bit collectible, like, people would just keep them for the memories I guess, a bit like rave flyers. My favourite independent store in my home town just used plain white bags, but my second favourite, Lotus Records, had these designs: -
djdiggla
Generally we have stamped paper bags. Remember some places had plastic back in the day but most used paper. And all do now that plastic bags are banned in the city.
JHouse
I seriously miss going to the record shop on the weekly, then DJn that night with the new goods. Sometimes I received a plastic bag for my wax, but it was usually paper. Seldom did either have branding.
Steve
I can't believe you guys never had them over in the US. I just found a book about them that was published over here: - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Z-Record-Shop-Bags-British/dp/1916218482/
TBearOne8III
sadly, I only held on to one bag with a dope design on it. I think i took a pic of it. if i find it I'll upload. It never occured to me to hold on to those bags. I think most shops had plain bags anyway.

I've been to lots of record stores on the Eastside and some in Canada in 2004 and I believe that there were some plastic ones (TSL and Honda's store in NY, I think), but it might be more of a Euro thing. One of my favorite stores just gave you random plastic bags from other stores that he got from god knows where. That was also the store where you could walk right into the owner's bedroom if you took the wrong turn. It was a bit of a mess. 😄
TBearOne8III
This is the only bag i kept. and its paper. Like Dirk said, we rarely got plastic bags. Sadly, this store is closed now.
