Just watched Brace's set and it was absolute fire. I can't make it through 99% of the DMC sets because people usually try to kill it, and consequently, it sounds horrible.

Totally. That was the entire goal of him entering. Brace is a straight up award-winning musician outside of the DJ scene, and after last year he said he might try DMC Online, and I was like do it, but do it YOUR way. He's not just using the fretless fader and Controller One as a gimmick for the battle, that's how he makes his music and performs live. Too many guys try to pander to a "DMC style routine". I think a dude should be able to come in with 1 turntable and a loop station and win if he rips it harder enough.

Routines like this one really help to highlight the fact that insisting on Technics is holding DMC back a bit.

If Brace wins, do you think he'll compete in London with a routine that's been 'translated' to 1200s and no pedals/fretless? Or will he showcase?

Yea we talked about that because obviously a decent amount of his routine won't really translate well to 1200s... Like the last routine would be pretty worthless if he can't use the fretless OR cut both decks through 1 side. Probably gonna decide when he crosses that bridge.

I kinda hope Brace turns down the DMC comp spot and just showcases. It would be quite a statement if somebody finally rejects their archaic format to show what could be done. Particularly if what they do murders the actually comp winning set (even if we're just talking crowd reaction).

Like i said in the other thread, I feel like a lot of DJ battle techniques were built around a traditional setup and that as the technology has grown, most haven't used it or have just used it to make things easier. Plus, let's face it, pretty much every option of the two Tech's and a simple battle mixer setup have been done now and by some of the greatest ever DJs. I reckon it time to integrate and build on a new language of skills for the tools now available. The DMC online sets and progression of techniques from Jon, Vekked and Brace perfectly sum it up for me. It's no coincidence that these have been some of the most watchable battle sets in years and that they've hit big with both the knowledgeable and the casual bystanders.

The most ironic thing is a lot of battle dj's have been saying for years that we need to be respected as MUSICIANS and that the turntable is an INSTRUMENT....Brace does exactly that and people complain?

Dude deserves a medsl for making actual music in the face of so many poorly executed/planned routines.

Just sayin.

The DJ battle scene has become so stagnant and watered down. The standard of what can win battles is at an all time low. I put all my battle trophies away because I felt they became worth less from the mediocre skill level of some of the sets that have won championships since. Then you have DJs who are crying online because they entered a judged competition and actually got their sets critiqued, like they expected to just get the trophy handed to them. HOWEVER, there are still a few that are doing some cool stuff, and some that respect this art form enough to push the limits of what can be done and not just play it safe by doing a set that is easy to execute, and I appreciate those rare few. Work hard, push your limits and take chances!!! You owe all the champions that came before you to put in the same amount of effort to be great that they did. Respect the game, or don't play

I just saw that :((

It's like he's been told to reign it in and present a better public face, but just cant leave it alone. So much suppressed rage, every time he get's cross he paints a more vivid picture of himself as that kid who wants to fight everybody in the playground but cries himself to sleep every night.

Didn't he dispute his losses every year he entered? I remember reading something way back how he said he was cheated out of the win and got all pissy. Can't remember what year it was, I think merge won.

Could be wrong

That to me says a lot about him as a person, he was a winging dickhead on that to show too .

The fact that he has sand in his vagina because of you jake must mean he is very jealous 😂

Prick
