DJ Rock Well
I was going to further derail Doob's thread about the kit we're using, but thought it would be better to start new thread. All the talk about MPCs and other samplers that made the sound hip hop (for a few years at least) got me thinking about all the different equipment and machines which defined the sound of different musical genres, from wah wah pedals to various synths, samplers and even software. Somehow I ended up at rave and this video. What do people here think were the most important machines in defining different musical genres? Post some more examples of genre defining machines in action, if you fancy having a nerd-out with me
Dan
The M1 instantly came to mind, the piano sound alone can be found on 1000s on dance tracks

Jimmy
The T word is to music is what rollerblading is to 'action' sports.
Dan
How about the Akai s950 sampler for Jungle? That time stretching effect was used a lot and I think it was mainly done on the 950. 909 kick pushed really loud into a desk so it clips = The Gabber kick. Amiga / Atari ST - tons of rave tracks were made on them.
