Law & Order SVU - the GamerGate episode (oh dear!)

Did anyone see this? Here's a plot summary: -

At a games convention, male gamers approach a girl and tell her she's not wanted there, cos, you know, she's a girl. SVU detectives are there and make comments taking the piss out of gamers, saying things like "isn't there a basketball game on or something?".

The same girl then gets sexually assaulted in a bathroom. When the police find her and she's describing the attackers, she says "they levelled up". Fucking CRINGE.

SVU then discover a terrorist group made up of male gamers. They post videos on a site called "Redchanit", LOL.

The male terrorist group kidnap a high profile female game developer, beat her up repeatedly while making her confess to various things, film it, and post videos of the attacks. There's even a scene where one of the terrorist gamers says that shooting people in games and real life are "exactly the same" and the camera goes into first person mode.

The episode culminates in a shoot-out where one of the terrorist gamers is killed. The cops rescue the female game dev and one of them tells her that she shouldn't give up her career in video games or the terrorists will win. The game dev replies "they already did" and the episode ends.

Obviously a lot of people are not very happy about this! Here's a tweet from the lead developer of World of Warcraft, for example: -

There are also anti-gaming groups, such as Moms Against Gaming, who are using this episode as ammo, saying "see! This is what gaming is like!".

This episode is essentially based on the media's lies over the last few months, and now the media are starting to realise that they dun goofed. Male gamers have been portrayed as literal terrorists, kidnappers and woman abusers, with some games websites even comparing them to ISIS or Nazis, and women have been portrayed as weak victims who are now too afraid to enter the game dev world.
