Wax On
Here's some background, check the vid http://blog.whosampled.com/2014/04/15/whosampled-presents-samplethon-calling-all-producers-beatmakers/
Wax On
Basically, the whosampled team went through the boosey & hawkes library archive, and provided about 3.5gb of sample material, for people to sample and make a composition with. the first 2 mins of the composition was played at the end of the day to the room, with Chris Read, a Boosey & Hawkes guy, Mark Rae, Ollie Teeba and Johnny Cuba judging the beats on creativity (what was done with the sample) and overall output. It was good to go out of the comfort zone and have to make a beat in time constraints, and there were a few cool ones, particularly this guy called Illiterate. Interesting seeing what people sampled too, as there were a good few bits sampled at least twice, and there were only 20 beatmakers. After that there was a showcase thing to go and play some of your beats, and that was nice, got some good feedback throughout the day. It's given me a bit more spark to get back to spending more time on beats.
DJ Rock Well
Sounds really good man. Â How did you get involved? Was it invite or could anyone apply?
Wax On
AAnyone could apply. I shared stuff about it on FB, but I guess its pot luck with social media as to weather you catch that sort of thing. I tagged some people but forgot to tag you.
