DJ Rock Well
Not sure if this will interest anybody here, but to cut a long story short... About 3 years ago M-Audio brought out a VA hardware synth called a "Venom", I don't know it personally, but it seemed to get good reviews and I think sold for about £450ish. I'm not sure why (maybe it's now discontinued?), but Thomann are currently selling it in a special promotion for £163!!!! http://www.thomann.de/gb/m-audio_venom.htm
Jon
Thomann are taking all my money at the moment. Not heard of that synth before, are there any reviews on YouTube? I'm on my phone at the moment but will have a look later!
DJ Rock Well
There are loads more in youtube too. It seems like it has it's imperfections but for the price, it's hard to argue
doppelkorn
Hmmm............. Might have been a good choice for me a few months back. Good find. WAIT A MINUTE! £163?! If you go online it's actually £163.23. You can fuck off son.
Steve
Amazon were selling this at the same price, but they sold the last one today: - http://i.imgur.com/lhrr8AQ.jpg It might be worth seeing if they get more stock if you're buying from the UK. That said, if it's been discontinued, you might wanna snap one up while you can.
Solemn
they used to sell this for a similar price or maybe even cheaper one or two years ago over here. i wouldn't buy it, it sounds rubbish imo..
broma
I'm trying to get hold of one of these: Anyone had a go on one? I don't know overmuch about synths but it looks a lot fun.
Jon
I've heard and read good things
DJ Rock Well
Broma - I'm doing just the same thing! I bid on a couple of secondhand ones, but they went too close to justify over a new one. I think I might have to take the plunge on a new one this week. DJ Rock Well
Just seen its the Microbrute in that vid ^^^ First I want a Minibrute, the the Microbrute cane out and I wanted that instead. Now I want both but think I'll start with the Mini. Either way both are great IMHO
kut_class
wow the microbrute looks amazing value for the money and that built in sequencer is a killer feature especially since you can transpose the sequences on playback. ergghh so much synth envy..... i'm still not sure id actually use a full analogue synth though i just dont get the time to do sessions like that (or any sessions full stop :-( ). Had my eye on a Slim Phatty or a bargin 2nd hand Virus ti2 desktop for a while now.
Guest rasteri
I've never seen the point of digital hardware synths, they're just a computer in a box anyway so why not just get a controller keyboard and a VST? Stuff like the microbrute though give me a stonner. Also worth checking out is the DSI Mopho -

Guest petesasqwax
I want an MS-20 mini. I won't get one as I don't have £600 knocking about, but if I did, that's what I'd spend it on
DJ Rock Well
Have you seen they've just announced a full size re-issue too? Quirks being that you have to screw it together yourself and it has both versions of the filter inside and you can switch between them! Guest petesasqwax
Oh dear god... I need to start saving!
DJ Rock Well
Save motherfucker, save! http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/namm-2014-korg-announces-the-ms-20-kit-591509
Guest petesasqwax
Ooof £1079? So, so sick, but I can't ever see me spending that on one. I'll have to make do with one of those Realistic bootleg Moogs with an MS-20 filter pedal. If I had that I reckon I'd be ready to start my Silver Apples tribute band
DJ Rock Well
What I don't totally get, is that the mini is being sold everywhere for £499 right now and for the sake of a full size keybed, two filters and and having to get the screwdriver out, it's near on £1100. Guest petesasqwax
I'd need to really pore over the finer details but it definitely doesn't sound like there is remotely enough in there to warrant it being more than the price of two minis!
