doppelkorn
So on this somewhat important work-related project I got lumped with the task of editing a small video. I have a limited amount of experience with Windows Movie Maker so was happy to say yes. Tonight we filmed all the content but I didn't realise that: a) we'd shot in .mov formatb) Windows Movie Maker doesn't accept .mov format I am now stuck. Can anyone recommend a bit of decent conversion freeware that will convert the files (about 30 clips each 10-60 seconds) to .wmv or some compatible format with no loss in quality? Alternatively, is there some simple, freely available movie editing software that handles .mov? Doesn't have to be flashy, just have the same capabilities as WMM? As I say this is for a work thing with a tight deadline.

Steve
MOV is just a container. Try converting it to MP4 using this: - http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MPEG-StreamClip Import the video into that, then save as MP4. That'll do it with no quality loss as it doesn't touch the audio/video streams inside the MOV container. Hopefully then it'll be recognised by Movie Maker, but it really depends what audio/video codecs were used.

doppelkorn
Cheers. I'm exploring using the open source Lightworks editor as well.
