Guest Mike Reezy
know how can i go about doing this? :s<{POST_SNAPBACK}> You need to spider your page I dont even know what that means but I know you need to do it to come up on searches, I also know it has something to do with <meta> (HTML) tags or something I would say google "Meta tags spider your web page" or something along the lines of that

2ndhand
other good things for search engines are: alt tags (when you hover over an image, text showsgood page titles (untitled document? grrrRRRrrRRRrr)comments in code can be good too. also a well titled domain name can pay dividends. eg: if you are doing a site for an online record shop in liverpool, called, say "scousegold" you may have the domain www.scousegold.co.uk it would be a good idea to also buy www.collectablerecordsinliverpool.co.uk and have it redirect to www.scousegold.co.uk but on the page that redirects (www.coll......pool.co.uk/index) you could bung on a LOAD of text with a shedload of keywords. Steve
If you use ALT tags you also need TITLE tags if you want it to work properly in all browsers.

Steve
You can check your pages for valid code here: - http://validator.w3.org/ If it passes there with no errors, it should display the same in all browsers.

x2k
Here's something I wrote on the subject for some one yesterday, it's purely based on my findings and understands so it may not be 100% correct but it will get you on the right track SEARCH ENGINE WORD OPTIMISEATIONRegardless of what keywords you enter into search engine websites these will not really make any impact on where you get listed unless the content of the website contains these words/phrases, also the more times they appear in the page and the nearer they are to the top of the page the better. Basically you've got to write content for the website with the words you want people to search for while still making it look like legitmate content (which it has to be because your customers will be reading it). Obviously the front page is the most important but it's worth doing as many different pages as possible because it gives you more possibilities and a wider selection of search terms. META TAGSThese are quite important, but you really need to make sure you get these right, because if you don't put keywords and descriptions which appear in the content then the search engine then the search engines think your lying and this counts against you. Also even though your keywords might be relevent if they done appear in the page it's no good because these search engines don't know that the word DJ is related to Music or Bulb is related to Lamp. There's quite a good tool for working out what to put in you meta tags here http://www.submitexpress.com/analyzer/ You basically enter the address of a page and it tells you how good your meta tags are and what are the most frequent words on the page (the ones which should be in the meta tags but obviously not words like THE or AND). The more times the the word/phrase appears on the page the higher rating you'll have for that page. EXTERNAL LINKThese are on of the main contributers to your search engine ranking but it's very hard to get this rating up, basically you need to get other website to link to you, the thing is the text of the link are words which count towards you, e.g. if a link is set up like so "To visit the Digital Vertigo click here" (where "click here" is the actual link) the the words "click here" will be counted towards you, a much better way to do it might be to have a link like so "For DJ equipment please visit the Digital Vertigo" (where "Digital Vertigo" is the link). In the case of using images as the link the ALT tags is where the keywords are got from e.g. <a href="http://www.digitalvertigo.co.uk/"><img src="image.jpg" alt="Digital Vertigo" /></a> --- I've found you can wait about 6 weeks - 3 months for a search engine to update, so you have to be patient and wait and see how the search engines respond. Finally try and register on http://www.dmoz.org/ it takes a while to get listed and you have to follow the instructions carefully otherwise you won't get added (this is moderated by people) but once you're listed it can do wanders for your rating! --- Hope that helps
