If you're using Windows 8, post up some of your favourite apps.

 

I really like the built-in People app. You can connect it to your Windows Live ID, Facebook, Twitter, Google, LinkedIn, Hotmail and Outlook accounts and it will then populate the app with data pulled in from those services.

 

Main screen, which shows all of your contacts and whether you've received any notifications: -

BBC New Mobile is a good free news app. It's better than the built-in news app, which offers limited content. The BBC app allows you to subscribe to various categories and it will then pull in the latest news. You can also set it to pop up a notification if there's any breaking news.

Scrolling across shows the categories you've subscribed to and the latest news for each one: -

Another cool thing you can do with apps is snap them to the left/right of the screen. Metro apps are coded so that the view changes when an app is snapped, making it easier to read.

 

An example with the People app snapped to the left of the regular desktop: -
