MusicBee - A nice alternative to iTunes/MediaMonkey for Windows users

iTunes on Windows is a big bag of cack and while MediaMonkey is great, some features are locked away behind a pay wall and the user interface leaves a lot to be desired IMO.

Earlier on I discovered another music player/manager called MusicBee. Whoever made it was clearly inspired by MediaMonkey, but it's like a slicker, nicer looking version of it. Here's a screenshot of it running on my PC: -

If you want to give it a go, you can download it here: -

It's free and it doesn't automatically associate itself with music files or any of that crap, so if you don't like it you can just uninstall it and carry on as you were.

The theater mode view in this will now automatically pull in lyrics from the web (where available) and display them like this: -

Also, if you click on the artist's name next to the album art, you get an artist bio: -

If you have an Android phone, there's a good free remote app for MusicBee here: -

There's now an optional, expandable album details view when you click on an album in album art view. It looks like this: -

It makes it easier to see what tracks are on an album, as well as selecting/queueing them etc.

The colour will change to match the album art and it will show you the artist names when you're viewing a compilation, for example: -

If you downloaded it via the front page of the website, then download this zip: -

http://musicbee.niblseed.com/V2_4/MusicBee_Exe_Patched.zip

Then, with MusicBee closed, extract the contents of that zip to the MusicBee installation directory. That will bring you up to the very latest beta version which includes the features I mentioned in my last post.

The skin I'm using is one I modified: -

Pop Pink Mod Test.zip

Extract that to the Skins folder inside the MusicBee installation directory. The skin is called "Pop Pink Mod Test". To be honest though, it looks kinda outdated, but I'm yet to find a more modern looking one that I really like. If you use that skin, MusicBee will look exactly as it does in the screenshots I've posted in this thread.

The developer of this program is unbelievably quick at responding to user feedback. At 5:15 this evening I reported a couple of issues with a new feature that I thought needed sorting out and at 5:51 he uploaded a new version that fixed both of the problems.

Dan, if you downloaded this zip and updated MusicBee, download it again and do it again (the link is the same). The developer has updated it a couple of times since yesterday and it fixes a couple of issues I reported, including scrolling with the new expanded view and being able to disable the automatic colour matching for that view.

The developer usually updates the beta several times a week based on user feedback, so you can always grab the latest version via that link.
